A quiet camp with the club last night and the first decent run since changing the handlbars. So now a different screen too. A little drizzle about as you can see. The bars and screen work well together though it did mean drilling the fairing.

Its likely the outfit will wear a K100RT fairing soon, likely a fairly big job to change it because of the bits of subframe in front of the radiator. Subframe off means sidecar off first.

Marie took the 16v instead of her R1150R.

screen looks good Al . would have given plenty of protection during the ride there and back. which bars , they look like RT?
rained Saturday arvo in Newey. wasn't enough to dampen spirits though.
where were you camped?

Yeah RT bars. The RS fairing doesn't work that well with the higher bars, thus the new screen. The campsite was a private property in Glen William near Dungog. The drizzle was enough that you didn't want to stay out standing in it. The ride there and the ride home both had beautiful conditions.

The screen allows me to ride with the visor open which is what I mostly do.

nice country up Dungog way , worthy of the ride.
I find the LT high screen gives a good coverage allowing visor up riding , just watch for the added heat buildup behind the screen in summer.
Charlie mounted a panel under the nose cone on his RT, helps direct airflow to the rider. making for a more comfortable ride.

Sidecars have a great advantage in that you can shift the radiator away from the tank and problem gone.

If you mean to relocate the radiator in front of the sidecar, I really don't want to do that. I've seen it done and it looks horrid. I'd rather cut the fairing where I have to so it fits around the mounts and the subframe. If you look closely you might notice that the front centre piece of my fairingin front of the radiator is missing. Kept the trimmed lower side fairing panels to retain the appearance of the RS.

Yes I had noticed the slimmed down fairing, andsans the rs cowling, I just figured it was done for the chair frame. Yes I have seen the sidecar with a naked radiator, and it was a bit ordinary, but it would alleviate the heat in the fairing and engine, though I cant say how much heat your left boot would like to take. A cowled up radiator may look more appropriate but I mean between the chair and bike and low enough tonot have the passenger suffer heat stroke.

I guess the possibility is there. i know a lot of K-series sidecars around the country (from feral/tough outback outfits to nicely finished road outfits) but can only think of one with the radiator moved from its original location. And that one has the rad back in its original place again in its latest iteration. Sidecars have a way of evolving Smile

The one I'm riding now:

  1. started as an 87 K100RS with a HRD subframe, HRD sidecar, a 15" rear wheel(BME) and a leading link from somewhere
  2. Handlebars changed to K1100RS with risers, low seat fitted.
  3. Leading link broke, back to standard forks (reversed for some trail reduction)
  4. Stripped back to bare RS bike, added EML-type subframe, leading link, custom 15" alloy wheels front and rear. Sidecar chassis widened, HRD body fitted (cosmetically the outfit looks no different, but now a very different machine to ride) - All this good stuff came from another sidecar outfit I bought at a bargain price.
  5. 1100LT engine, wiring loom, computer fitted (complete strip of bike and sidecar bits required)
  6. Soon an RT fairing.

So its exactly the same bike I bought except for the seat, front wheel, back wheel, front suspension, sidecar mounting subframe, sidecar chassis, engine, computer, wiring and handlebars.

Best axe I've ever had.

Al
