I have been riding BMWs for about 6 years now (50 years in the saddle with an 18 year gap in the middle on other brands) before picking up a trio of K100s recently.

A K100RS Frankenstien bike (my mate bought it with a tired motor and leaky gas tank for not much money, swapped out the motor and gearbox for low km units and swapped the tank. This one is road registered and was his regular ride.

The deal also included a fairing less K100RS (complete with leaky tank) as a parts bike and a K100RT  sans seat and running rough, which is on historical plates (thirty years old min in this State for club plates) which is going to another mate. Also a few boxes of parts and bits and pieces.

My only previous exerience with K bikes was a test ride of a second hand K100RS in the late 80s where I forgot about the two new tyres on the bike and promptly dropped it a few blocks into the test, whoops! Throttle response was way different to my Jap four and I stalled it whilst leaning over negotiating a corner at low speed. No biggie for the Suzuki, but the BMW hesitated, hiccuped and down we went.

I live in a country town 200kms (120miles) from the big smoke so the RS will see a lot of twisty and sweeping country roads around here soon.

Looking forward to performing preventative maintenance so that the RS can be trusted for long distance and speed.

it is a faded gun metal coloured with a white tank with a red and blue stripe at the moment. I sort of fancy a wild Orange colour, maybe the R1150GS Mandarin colour or something brighter. Whether or not I actually get around to painting it remains to be seen.

My main interests in motorcycling are touring and I am a member of the BMW Touring Club of NSW.

Hailed from there myself for 30 years. WelKome aboard Mick.
There's some nice riding around the central west. Just watch out for that black ice up in the ranges in winter.

Welcome from the northern territory too. Its good to see new Ks coming in like that. Three seems to be the lucky number.....

You do realise there has been the start of some K tourism forum members from Australia and other places coming to Ireland....so best get your name down on some good rides over here too. I think Rossko has the next one booked....

Welcome from a bit South of you.

Having been part of the K tourism to Ireland set, I can endorse Olaf's comment. I only wish I had time for more. Next time, Olaf.

You might even get some Oz visitors up your way in Bathurst.

Cheers,

Bill

Another welcome Mick from up here in the Hunter Valley. When we travel south from this area we generally come down the west side of the mountains on various routes through your area, e.g. Bylong Valley, Sofala etc.

Corro, another forum member (although he doesn't post much), is out in the Sunny Corner area not far from you.

There's a couple of rides coming up in September where you could meet some of the inmates. Have a look at The Far Cairn Rally and Scrapheap Adventure Ride 2015.

Cheers

Good to see you here Mick.  I think you'll enjoy the Ks.

Maybe we can spend a bit of time and TLC to get the RT running smoothly instead of rough.  I've got the club shim kit and my own carbstix for balancing the throttle bodies

Al(I'm sure you know who)

Now heres some trivia/history about your bike that you might appreciate Mick.

The multicoloured tank came from and was painted by a past president of BMWTCNSW(was a sidecar, then a 100GS thing, then back to a sidecar before he sold it), so it's found it's home with you; another past pres.
