Hi to all.

Name is Rob and Noddy is an old nickname from days past.  I'm in Queanbeyan NSW which is next door to Canberra. Originally from Hobart Tasmania and moved to Canberra as I'm a Federal Government worker.

Bought a 1984 BMW K100RS a few months ago and enjoying it.  Not my only bike but its been purchased for longer trips to do in a bit more comfort than my Duke 750SSie 2000 model.  Rode one back in the late 80's a mate had and didn't like it due to the handlebar width and found it heavy, but always liked the look and the reliability of them.  Sniffed around for 2 years and found this one with 151,000k's but its a one owner bike before me and its in VG condition as it has been looked after.  Its the light geen colour which I'm getting used to, and has factory panniers and top box.  Overall, great bike for not a lot of money.
I'm starting to get used to the handlebars and switch blocks and the retractable sidestand, but overall its a lovely thing to ride.  Bit of throttle slack will need adjustment but can't really fault it.
I'll put some pics up when able to do so.
Thanks for adding me and I look forward to maybe meeting a few on here down the track.

Rob.

Hi Rob

Welcome from the Northern Territory...!

Sounds like a good K but more power to you if you can get used to that retractable side stand. That was the first thing I ditched on my 84 RT.....as in made a deal with the seller but only if he got rid of the retracting function which we did with a simple saw cut.

Excellent ride for lots of long trips.....!!

There is a section on the home page on what to do if you have just bought a K! New pannier hinges are a start...prone to splitting and are very cheap.

Might even see you up here some time......so far we have had Indian036 and Tackler. Gaz is booked for November and Rossko is down for our spring.......

Welcome from up the road in Goulburn.

Perhaps a meet up sometime might be good.

welcome Rob

have fun on the k .

a positive addition is to change tyres , given that most of us have found the things fitted are typically "past used by date "

youll find lots of discussion through the forum about this ...which for some, has transformed the handling .
rear shock is always another location where handling might be improved somewhat

good luck and welcome aboard

Welcome to the forum Noddy
I tend to think that the sidestand was designed, not so you could retract the stand with the clutch lever but so that it prevented you from putting it in gear while the stand was down. Using the lever to retract the stand will add greatly to the wear and tear on the clutch cable and as many here will tell you... its a bugger when they break. Some don't use the sidestand, others flip the stand back with their foot or disconnect the clutch/stand mechanism completely.

There's a Snowy Mountains ride planned for early next year you may be interested in seeing as you're down that way.
https://www.k100-forum.com/t10378-snowy-mountains-2016#122574

Enjoy the ride
