That opening scene was just gratuitous K-abuse!

I've taken that very flight myself (only the car was moving), but nobody put the boxes out for me to land on and it cost me a collar bone.

An interesting concept - saves your back and chest, but looks like it makes you into a cylinder and causes you roll more than slide - problem with rolling is the arms and legs flail about and get broken.

Read the comments - some of them are quite accurate about the way the 'high-speed' tests were conducted. Also - DON'T GIVE THE EU ANY MORE STUPID IDEAS!!!!!!

Of course the ad men are going to stage the "accidents" to show their product working properly - the follow on vid from 2012 when the Germans were testing the jacket shows just how it really doesn't protect you in certain scenarios. Also in the K bike clips, I see the screen has been removed - when I took my flight, I went through the screen and got a hoofing bruise (through my bike jacket) where I impacted with it, before it broke and let me fly on my way to my date with the tarmac. The tether on the inflatable jacket is too long to allow the jacket to inflate before hitting the screen.

It is interesting, in the clip of that the kid "falling" backwards off his bike (I've see some bad acting in my time), that he is saved by the inflatable vest - hurrah!, but you'll also notice that he's just wearing a tee shirt under the sleeveless vest, so makes you wonder just how safety conscious he/his parents really are.

An added plus of the inflatable jacket - if you crash into a river, lake, pond, ditch, deep puddle etc....it will act as a buoyancy aid and keep you afloat - but not necessarily face up!

The French invented the airbag jacket in 1894. Here is their first ad cheers :

Hopefully, this airbag jacket is not made by Takata airbag. The Honda Goldwing has been equipped with it and now there is a recall spanning from the 2006 through 2010 model years. Krash test dummies 652573

I was considering buying a jacket like this at least 6 years ago. The jacket that I was looking at had the air bag "built in" but was only protecting your neck, shoulders and back. Nothing in the front to protect your thorax.
At the time the cost was about 800€ ( Twisted Evil ).
