That's a nice little project, Chaz! I'll be cleaning out my Beenleigh shed in February so if there's anything K-related in there that'll help you get a chassis and ancillaries round that motor they're yours. Otherwise, it's good to have a spare power plant for the future.

whilst in there, did some pipes off old gerty , I had got some earlier that I swapped over when I did the head a couple of years ago now , but gerty's cleaned up just fine , just lots of time and noise

before

after

these will probably go on the old motor ...unless I can figure out a way to make them all more equal and perhaps a collector ? huh ? grin !

Wow Charlie!

You've certainly made a fantastic job of cleaning up the engine block and pipes. You obviously just can't help pushing the bar higher and higher - how on earth can us mere mortals ever reach your standards? I suspect that many, many, hours of elbow grease went into it.

Don't think you need a frame - just put the engine block with pipes attached indoors and make it the centre piece of your living room. A bit of clear glass on top and you'll have the perfect (if slightly heavy) coffee table.

sunday and a bit of work going on

the frame now clear of a lot of crud ...but the rust is all through the frame

some severe cutting back is necessary in a few places ...but tricky to get at in the head area

a tad of welding needs to happen which I hadn't noticed before ...looks like someone forgot to put spacers between the frame and engine

can anyone help ?..I cant weld at all .but thinking a piece of metal might be required to strengthen up the joint welded across the support bridge ?

I guess its coming along ok , may have to resort to some sand blasting in tricky places though

Have you considered pickling the frame in distilled white vinegar? A day or two and all the rust is gone. Follow up with a phosphoric rust preventing primer and paint. Do you have POR products in OZ?

no mate , haven't seen it , yet
seen many suggestions , like this one

http://www.evapo-rust.com.au/

molasses and water etc

but finding a big bin and a sump pump to keep flowing the stuff (like a shower ) is outside my budget ,,,erm at the moment

but I had forgotten about phosphoric acids stuff ...thanks for the reminder

there seems to be a few sections that have the rust throughout the frame ...mostly could be categorised as surface rust
for me , in all the usual places .
but if I'm doing it I don't want to be painting over , and creating an issue later on

just hard yaka at the moment grinding it back with a brush wheel on a drill ...I do have a few flap sandpaper type wheels which cuts it back pretty
well .... just a bit tricky getting into some tight places

thanks for the reminder and suggestions

If you want to brush on hose off, what about Diggers Rust and Stain cleaner. basically Oxalic acid in a bottle. Bunnings stock it, from what I've seen it is brushed on andjust hoses off. Apparently cheap and organic, may be useful maybe not mate.

I'm not sure if the frame would fit in a sulo bin? Utube do plenty of electrolysis video's that show how to use a battery charger to remove rust. Would like to know how that goes for one of us. he he.

Sulobin full of water a couple of spoonfuls washing soda, Neg lead to frame under water and Pos lead to a piece of steel that's half in the water but the conneter is out and dry. Leave overnight switched on.

Gotta try that one day. Very Happy

well id given up doing anything to the frame ,,,whilst all the flood events of recent weeks were going on,

bloomin stuff I had cleaned off has rusted over pretty quickly , I guess that's normal for 80% humidity for the last few weeks ,
but a change is in the air now , with overnight temps this week in the teens rather than the 20s and humidity now under 50%

I got a tail section from rick ,,,in need of repairs , all cracked from some event

before and during

the top cowl now has a triple layer of fibreglass for its front under section where the damage was most prevalent and at least overlapping 1
layer for the internal remainder of the cowl for support ..
not bad for an old fella with little but ambition ?

too many scheduled holidays this month , after the flood events , and a big cleanup down in Lismore after their huge flood ..lost lots of valuable items

has me just painting and fixing stuff .that is cheap and rewarding to achieve

that rear section, updated ...just another coat to equalize the colour out ,to go

front fender

disks

forks

triple tree

front and rear wheels , all prepped up

just need to find a few things
like
a wiring loom
a tank (willing to get repaired )
foot pegs
switches
cables and some hydraulics
etc
think ill make some sidecovers
and refurbish a standard k100 rs type seat I have

Can't help with a loom, my spare has been butchered too much.

Definitely have a tank, a spare 1100 tank with one sidecover tag missing, straight though, painted silver with dark silver fogging (ala R90S).

Possibly some early type footpegs (with the cast weights attached)

What cables? RS or RT length? Possibly have something here, I'll have to dig.

just starting on the exterior finish of the rs fairing

and some of the hardware that fits behind it

thanks to the blokes in "the crew", I got some internal metalwork , though rusty as hell

just working it back to metal

I'm considering building a bit more around these pieces ...as the rs typically doent have pockets ...so handy for so many things ...but don't feel the need for a tank bag to carry small items

the fairing itself has had a couple of "Charlie" fiberglass fixes from slight factures at important locations both left and right hand sides

the outside is starting to look the goods with some, at last, nice lines . a few divots to fill with putty but getting there

I think I'm going to make a bottom plate to help this issue

I understand these fairings get written off when damaged and to many it was declared they wrote it off due to the Tupperware, But! I really didn't know they had that much sheet metal in the nose. Where does it go? is it just a heat shield? Outside of that you're doing a great job mate.
