Reassuring that you've referred to the 'usual leaks' - I thought it was just me, all mine have leaked there too at some point.

chris I imagine cam buckets - lifters ..all follow their own wear rules , kinda like cv joints and the like , so not surprised to see some differences to me at least

Charlie, you will have to post a photo of the new bike and then have arrows showing the source of each part. This is truly an international bike.

bugga it , couldn't wait to see the difference it made to the rear end , as far as themed colour scheme , so fitted it up straight away

kinda fits in well I recon . rather than that black original shock

and yes the rear disk is not the finished item ....the matching to front floating disk for the rear has a warp in the hub - disk mount  so needs to be machined ....will go on at a later stage ....but I do have rear brakes  ...yipee   !!! likewise the rear wheel rim  , will be sorting an adaptor to straighten another rim ...pretty soon

edit , just noticed I got the top yolk 180 degrees out , cant access the damping adjustment , oh well , switch it round later today ,

hmm could that gun be  a replica of sorts ?

just a few things to sort properly  , like leaking brake master at the front , etc
the local restorers club , over at Inverell , do a "rego day" on the 30th of November ...more a get together and reregister  or newly register a complying vehicle .
but you need to have every thing in order to present to the officer for testing ,  Phil Kimber ( "rockman"  on here ) has been watching the progress I guess and is one of the registrars for the club , im hoping all goes well .
but I still need to get  rego papers from a previous owner to prove that at one time it was in fact registered and also to register the bike with the RMS  (roads authority  , formerly dmr  (as I knew it , some time ago ) for the historic plates , and a "pink slip " (safety certificate ) along with some other stuff  ?

ill have to send off to al pennykid ,who says he may still have some documents regarding the frame at least

seems like a big task , given that so many bits and pieces have come from all over and the frame has changed from an RT to an RS ...in our eyes no biggie  but hmmm  not sure about that  bit

perhaps things will fall into place  this month

You dont need a pink slip Charlie. The club inspector can do that for you. Nor do you ned the old rego papers. A receipt from the previous owner (of the frame) is sufficient. Alternatively you can do a stat dec at the RMS.

A great project and well done too.

On the rear shock I have one of those Konis on my K100LT and it was great for 2 up with camping gear on twisties. It is still good but needs a refurb and repaint the spring. Did you do any more to it??

refurbished seals , rod re chromed and other stuff internally , plus gimble fittings replaced at each eye with same as the stock bmw ones , as the ball type seems to be hard to get a hold of ...at this point in time , Schrader valve installed as well , on the recharge point .

Charlie, you're lucky those side covers conceal the black cable ties around the top rail of the frame otherwise you would have to source red ones - and how about getting some grey/silver cable ties for those lines running down to the rear master cylinder?

On the RT to RS question - I don't think it will bother NSW RMS too much. When I went to register my K75 which was imported and a factory naked bike designated just "K75" they told me that it was either a "K75S" or a "K75RT", which is it? so it's an RT. Apparently because the "K75" naked was not sold out here they don't recognise that model.

Cheers

It'll be as a K100RT, because that is what the frame and vin says. The different tupperware doesnt matter that much, except to some clubs for whom originality is paramount.

My experience with one motorcycle registration with RMS was similar to Rockman's. The description of the model recorded by the RMS official doing the registration data entry was different to the manufacturers model description - close but different. It appears that if the drop down menu does not have the correct descriptor, the common response of the person doing the registration data entry is to select something that approximates. There appears to be no capacity for the person doing data entry to do an on the spot modification to correctly describe the model.  Some insurance companies also have incomplete descriptors for models and select the closest model descriptor just to complete the transaction. They just don't have our passion!

Same in Queensland if the frame or VIN says it's an RS then it's an RS there is no way but to choose from a manufacturers list.

fitting up the lower fairings , well trial fittup ,
looks like ill have to undo a few things and relocate the fairing spider around just a smidgen , and the lower brackets are a little wide
, ill take an inch off them and see i guess ......

question can someone measure the airbox to outer lower fairing and tell me the measurement ...as i have not seen the brackets for this area before and i would like to get it close to original ....before i do any cutting

think I got it sorted , thanks to Aaron   who  took measurements , about 105mm to outer edge , should then let the knee pads fit neatly to the engine bits and I guess the tank interface - buffer
