CF quote" As we speak, I am actually working on making the forum logo as a real 3 dimensional object."

Most of us have already heard or seen of these .
This was shared with the Krew recently at the Karuah Rally.
something worth considering for replicating parts such as the starter button on the switchgear .

multiple manufacture of parts would pay for the outlay in due time .

Ed, I don't think the resolution or tolerances on the Aldi machine would lend itself to printing small parts like the starter button. And I doubt they would be strong enough to last. Like the advertising said... "suitable for trinkets and toys"

I've been working on my own starter button project which I'm having prototyped right now using a different 3D printing process called Laser Sintering. Resolution is much finer and the finish is stronger, using materials better suited to the wear and tear that the button will go thru on a motorcycle out in the weather.

It's been on hold for a few months as I've had a few changes in my life recently, including moving to Newcastle but I recently submitted 3D drawings to have prototypes made. Once I've checked the finished piece for fit etc I'll make them available to members for a small cost.

agree with you there Nigel , the resin composite would probably not hold up to the UV conditions , especially here in Oz .
possibly more of a kids craft gadget if anything.
good to see you moving along with your imaging though, hoping it comes together for you .

I have built a Prusa i3 with steel frame, but didn't finish yet...
You can really print whatever you want, but you should improve the nozzle, hot end, hot bed, steel or really rigid frame...
A friend with the same printer as me, can do really thing layers, almost like 3-4 paper sheets, he has done some buttons for his car for example...

In the summer if I have more time I will start printing, so I could help if somebody need a printed button or a TomTom holder...Very Happy

I'd heard that someone here in the mountains had turned up a few of the starter buttons in Aluminium.  At the time I was unaware that they were a problem as I've never had one fail personally.  Cant remember who it was now.
