Hello folks, I have a tickler that has pestered me enough to pull the beast off the road for a bit, despite the pleasant early spring we'v had in Connecticut. 
As the title suggests the sender wire disintegrated and parted at the black rubber hood by the sensor and I'm curious what options I have to fix the wire. Any suggestions? The pump is on my bench pending a rebuild so I figure it's time to tango.

BTW the bike is new to me this past Xmas and I've been able to bring back this totally rad bike from an immediate fate. Thanks again for the support and resources.

Thanks for the reply Inge. Could you suggest a method to routing it correctly? Is it necessary to remove other bits (if I recall the wire goes behind an engine cover)? Will chasing it through with a bit of thin material an exercise in madness?

I recently had to remove my oil pressure sensor wire so that I could take the timing chain cover off. Providing the old wire is still in place, remove the ignition timing cover and simply attach a trace wire, or the new cable, to the sensor end and carefully pull it up thru. Do the same up thru the top of the block. The connector is somewhere in behind the radiator I think, but I've not had that part out.

Alternatively, if the old wire is still there and its ok (I imagine the spade connector has just come off the end??), attach a new female spade connector. Brass one if you can find one and shrink wrap it as close as you can to the spade to help give it a bit of strength. Or replace the wire with spade connector up to the timing cover and just solder and shrink wrap to the existing wire coming down from the top.

I think MotorBins had that part, or something that looked like it. I wanted to replace my split cap, but its been out of stock for some time.

The connector is front-right under the frame near the right-hand switch multiblock. It's a single white plastic rectangle. Or black. It seems to depend on what BMW had available on that day.

Groovy I'll order the part and investigate the route more thoroughly. Unfortunately the wire broke about 4cm from the boot. As an aside last night I discovered my water pump has a bolt and not a nut! The shaft looks good too. Man I was thrilled. Seals, turbine and wire in the mail woot woot!
