hey guys,

When I bought my bike the PO showed me how to start the bike, "full choke and run it till you get to the end of the road and its fine". Sure enough, from cold the only way the bike will start is with full choke, if you shut it down to half or off the bike will cut out, it needs a good 2 min run before you can shut it down. I've been caught out by shutting it down early and the bike cutting out at the next junction. I was led to believe by the PO that this is normal for a bike of this age.... but I have a niggle.

Does this sound like a temp sensor issue? what do you guys think?
I've had the plugs out and they look bomber. When the bikes warm, no issues but is like this every time from cold start.

Cheers
Brett

Either 'choke' or part throttle. The 'choke' print is simply because BMW took the same part from their carb engine bikes where it did actually control a choke.. On the K it actually gives it a part throttle.

Sounds ok to me. I have to use it or else give some throttle but as I live on a hill I let it off immediately as its only on over run down the hill.

ok, so there is no actual 'choke' then. so nothing to worry about? no further investigation needed?

Happy days, one less thing to worry about.

Just make sure your plugs are good and gaps are correct, but in truth the K seems very tolerant and forgiving.

There are other threads about rubbers and crank case breather/vent but if its ticking over ok after warming up that would suggest a lot is good.
