The whole switch and button assembly is held in place with a C-clip.  It would be easy to swap it out and clean the contacts and restore function when the green button cap breaks off and the spring hops away.

Any leads for a source of that cheap plastic assembly?

There was one member in Europe that 3D Printed some buttons and Sidecar Paul turned up a new button from aluminium.
If you find a source for the buttons then be sure to share it as we have been trying to find a good supply for years. I know that some here have resorted to buying new or good used switch blocks.

I've had one 3D printed but the prototype needs adjustment. As soon as I make changes to the cad drawing I'll get it reprinted and it should be good to go. It's a project I've had on the boil for the past 8 or 9 months but with moving, computer out of action for a couple of months on warranty, travels etc I've not had time to complete it. I'm away for another 10 days right now.

All my springs were lost when the buttons popped off somewhere on the highway--Paul would you be able to measure the wire diameter of the spring? 

i have a tool to wind small springs and can make a batch.  The smallest wire i have in stock is ~1mm diameter and probably too stiff for this application.

Also Paul it looks like your button is intact but it was the contact end of the knurled stud that was burned up or damaged?

Kenny, I found the picture on the interweb and have no idea what it is...a BMW of some description I think...and it's orange!

I'm coming out of my orange phase, so I'll probably change the photo soonish.

Actually Kennybob, I drilled away a perfectly good contact to dismantle a spare assembly so that I could make a new button and paint it BLUE,  :geek: well there's no green anywhere else on my solo.

That's a beautiful match and green would detract greatly.

i drilled a tiny hole thru the green end and pressed the contactor stud out, so my contactor is in excellent condition and i just need to turn a new button.  i had thought to make the button from nylon and press the stud back, but i like your threaded brass screw idea also--it allows adjustment for the contactor point.

i suppose if they were made of aluminum, then they could be alodined to nearly any color desired, even orange.

My switch buttons are extremely faded and I would like to repaint them.

Soaking in ArmorAll or similar plastic care products will bring some of the color back.

Kai Ju, I took the switch buttons apart to paint them and used a 'plastic' primer followed by acrylic (car) paint from a rattle can. The paint has stayed on well with no sign of wear so far. There have been various suggestions for restoring the colour of the buttons, one being to rub them with olive oil, but I've never found a lasting solution........apart from painting them.

 If you paint them a non-standard colour, you can come and sit in the corner with me.

I'm going with a 50 shades of grey theme for my bike ( see post 6 here: https://www.k100-forum.com/t11296-noob-saying-hello ) so I don't want any bright colors.

I've actually thought about using fingernail polish but don't know how that would hold up long term.
Sounds like you found a good solution with the plastic primer/automotive paint.

I have used fingernail polish.......... on the clear plastic of the instrument cover. The high beam and red brake check segments were crazed and some polish just takes out that strange cracked look. I used clear and it is still there. Did try colours but could not get the right shade.

I use clear fingernail polish on rust pitted fork tubes.
Lightly sand the rust spots with worn out drywall sandscreen, then fill the pits with nail polish. Let the polish harden, sand flush and replace the fork seal.
It fills the rust pits, which helps prevent them getting bigger, and also keeps oil from accumulating in the pit and escaping the fork past the seal.

Super glue is also a good thing to use but you must clean well with acetone before you use it.
