I was going through my calendar and seems we have traditionally had a meet up at Stradbally Fayre in August, this would be Saturday 6th August.

Just sounding out interest etc........change of date? change of venue? stay with it? make it a camping weekend?.

Agreed For Stradbally Fayre 13th August:

Olaf, I'm always interested in a run/camp/fish over on yon Emerald Isle...it's been a long time since March.

I definitely can't do the 6 Aug though...already got an important family gathering that weekend - the grand opening of "David's Bar" in commemoration of my Royal Marine nephew who was killed in Afghanistan in October 2012 (Green on Blue Incident). Think it is going to be a messy one and I'm feeling hung over already just thinking about it!

I'll keep an eye on how your plans come together - I should be able to get over sometime during August but I also need to avoid the dreaded GCSE and A level results days (18 & 25 Aug), so can't commit at the moment.

I also have a family event on the 6th so how about proposing the 13th as this also suits Paul. I bet Dai is either working or away no matter what date we pick :-)

Away to India seven days later (21st). And yes, I've just checked, I am on-call on the weekend of the 13th-14th. Well what a surprise 🇳🇴

13th doesn't suit i'm afraid. Would you believe I'm off in Blackpool ballroom dancing (yes, I know, a man of many talents   )

But I'm game for a meet up in August all right. All other Saturdays in August are free.

I would be interested, camping for the night sounds good too, and let me know of any Saturday or Sunday spins going on over the Summer Autumn. I've been on a few charity runs since I got back on my bike again but everyone on the rides like lunatics.

Good to see you back on the K at last.

I had a camping weekend for the June weekend and quite enjoyed it! Took in a nice tootle around Wicklow and Sally Gap.

This evening I was talking to 88 about making a camping trip around the 13th. He is based in Roscommon and there are some rather nice camping places Connemara/Westport etc. I will definitely be taking a weeks camping around then.

You are doing better on the runs than me. End of May there was a vintage run in Youghal, heard about it on the morning. There was another run in Youghal today, heard about it just after lunch so poor advance publicity.....Also we tend not to ride like lunatics.

Might take a short run up your way if you are still based at Kanturk? If you are interested 3rd Sunday of the month 11am breakfast at the Viaduct Inn at Bishopstown. Not normally a ride out as most of us have things to do but the breakfast is excellent. Also a breakfast same venue on the 1st Sunday at 10am......I usually go along and should be along on 17th.

Olaf.

It was on the cards. A group of friends in England have been doing the Eleffant for the last six-seven years, taking five days each time. I'd need to add at least another three days and that's what's killed it for me.

My wife did come up with an idea for an epic trip on Sunday: Holyhead - Hull - Rotterdam - Copenhagen - Torshavn - Rekjavik and back. Bikes go free on the Copenhagen - Rekjavik section. We're thinking about it...

Hi Jerh,

Somehow I missed this post with contact so have noted it.

Breakfast is next Sunday at Viaduct 11am.

Now as for me and Charlie Coughlan, Charlie feels I was the cause of him being nearly lynched one evening many many years back by the father of a young neighbour he fancied due to a certain Honda 500-4 being ridden up his road at a multiple of the 30mph speed limit, open pipes didn't help. Yours truly being the owner of said 'maniacally propelled veh-hicle' but not the offending rider..........

Hopefully see you out.

Olaf

Just bringing this thread back up to life.

BAE mentioned a trip over.

Good news is my plan for taking a week camping from about 12 to 21 August has fallen into place and BAE seems to be on for some of those dates.

No defined plans on where to be or where to go as weather can be a factor. Last year we let weather define our routes and it worked out very well.

I will check with 88 regarding meeting up point but he has suggested Athlone Kilmartins as a meeting point. I will probably like to have tent and camp sorted the evening before but not absolutely essential. Some good camping around the area so if BAE is over Friday we can meet up somewhere. He missed out on the more northerly parts of the Wild Atlantic Way that time so its an option to make up for that.

Over to you Will......

Olaf,

I'm karooned  (like marooned, as in stuck on a distant island, but without a K to ride)...at the moment, although the Mustang Conv does go a little way to help get the feel of the wind in my hair and keep the 94F (34C) under control...not the same though but just can't persuade my daughters to go threes up on a bike (besides all the bike rentals seem to be hardlys round these parts).

When I get home I'll see what dates work (and how much money is left in the bank after I have finished kicking the pants out of my credit card at particularly rubbish exchange rates).

sunny

We don't often see 34C over here so its always comfortable. Probably a bit like parts of Wales, 34mm is more common than 34C!

No need to worry about plans, if it works for you go for it. I am planning on being more Galway northwards and a few visits to 88 as he is a bit stuck with work commitments.

There are some grainy plans about a France trip in September though. Ferry to Roscoff France is only a few miles from me and I can make it to Perigueux on same day............

My thoughts about a September trip to France got a nice boost today.

An old insurance motor claim against Aviva that provided the funds for the K100LT got finally got settled today. The incident was in February 2010 and it was a nightmare despite there being no personal injury involved.

Has Anybody got a suggestion for a routing for the 13th? Who's likely to be coming and from what direction?

Although Stradbally Fayre has become our most frequented destination and provides great Arterial access to routes from the whole Island we are not married to it !

Anybody got a preference for North South East or West?.......... :read:Anybody?

Much as I love the Antrim coast I suspect a lot for a day trip....but perhaps the Mournes might not be!

Poor Dai, on his home patch and he cant join us.....but I have a feeling he is not leaving for India until the following week so maybe we join him.

Then there was the May weekend outing that only 88 and myself did.......

Given the comment about weather I suspect that may play a part in the final decision.

I got to go at my RT tomorrow. Came back after a week away to find petrol dripping from the rear of the fuel rail. Fuel line from rail to FPR seems to be the culprit so a bit awkward to get at. Hope its not the rail spigot. Have a spare rail but no spare injector seals.

Meet Stradbally Fayre for Breakfast.....9.30 ish

Depart 11 - 11.15, 90 mins spin to

Portumna castle for Coffee stop

Onwards xcountry (several good routes/options available) to Tullamore (60 - 90 mins depending on routing)

Leaving everyone bang in the middle near major roads for return trips via N80, M6/M7.

Simples!  cheers

I guess I will meet CluainSi and Tom O'Leary at Mother Hubbards in Cashel as usual about 8.15am for coffee and depart.

For anyone else travelling from Cork that means leaving Dunkettle 7.20am.

I'll be too busy tripping the light fantastic in Blackpool.

Just use FaceTime, call xyz.com and I'll see who sits at the table :-)

Cheers
