Of kourse you all know about the Far Kairn Rally (17-18 Sept) Tottenham NSW as usual

Returning this year is the Kane Toad rally, to be held at Lake Leslie near Warwick(QLD), could suit some of our northern Kohort. Oct 1-3(long weekend), the organisers are restricting it to BMW Klub members and their guests, so if you want to go you can be my guest.

Kosciusko Rally at Geehi Hut on the Alpine Way from 8-9 October, hosted by ACTBMWMCC

11-12 November sees the return of the biennial National Motorrad Rally this year held in Bright, Victoria.  For zis you muzt be a member of a recognised BMW Klub Sad but if the last one was anything to go by it will be a great time.  Think sit down some BMW factory support, some organised events/rides, an organised dinner and clean clothes instead of camping chairs and eating around a fire.

It's all on guys, if you need anymore info about any of them, just ask.

The Ks must take over!

Al

PS I think I'll be at all except for Kossy.

I'm 'home' near Brissie from the last week of September through about early November this year, and will spend at least a part of that down in Victoria, so I'm gunna try to give a few of those a go. The last Kossie I attended was 2008. Time flies. I'm planning on camping at Phillip Island for MotoGP, late October. Any other K riders going? Thanks for the news.

The Cane Toad is bit of hike for us coming out of Sydney.  What Marie and I are planning(for ourselves) is head to a dog friendly motel in Muswellbrook Friday night (250km), then up to Warwick on the Saturday (about 600km). As far as my club is concerned it gives us an opportunity to join any Newcastle/Hunter riders that might be heading up as well.  Returning will be a more relaxed 2 dayer, overnighting somewhere on the way down.

Awesome Al, the Kane Toad is too close for me to miss. The website seems a little short on details, but I'll keep checking as we get nearer.

I should be able to make the Toad.  Hopefully one of the organisers will be able to vouch for me.

As the BMW Klub Qld managed to pick up the largest Klub attendance at Karuah, they won't be eligible this time.  So this is our chance, as Al said "for the Ks to take over"!

With a bit of luck one of the southern Kohort may be able to pick up a longest distance trophy.

TWB, Waz & I are planning on travelling down to the island on the Wednesday & Thursday and are staying at a campground on Gap Road within walking distance of the Lukey Heights entrance to the circuit.

We are probably going to meet up at Gundagai mid afternoon Wednesday with me having an early start coming out of the Hunter and Waz leaving from Woolongong. Probably overnighting in a pub near NSW/Vic border.

Cheers

I'll be departing Sydney Sunday the 16th (Pamela has a two-day permaculture* course there over that weekend) and heading towards Clunes to visit rellies during the week prior to the GP, so we'll be going to Phillip Island via Queenscliffe-Sorrento ferry or over the top through Melbourne. Details as it becomes clearer.

*anyone miss the sad news that old Bill Mollison has died?

With us arriving Thursday morning and me needing to flush brakes & coolant and add bits 'n' bobs to the RS it might be a close shave to get to the Toad from Logan Village by the weekend.

There's an event in Mirboo North VIC called the Blessing of the Bikes on the weekend before Phillip Island. Its organised by the guy who owns the In-Line Four Cafe in Mirboo Nth. Its their 3rd annual event and they had 5,000 turn up there last year. However, if you guys are traveling thru Gippsland call in for a coffee. There's some very beautiful riding thru there on the way to PI.

I'd come with you but I can't get away thru the middle of the week. Enjoy the ride.

hi kapitan , mmmm the " blessing of the bikes" is a "wank", the guy who owns the inline 4 cafe set it up so his business prospers to the tune of thousands of $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ , you need a letter of credit from your bank manager to afford the rip-off prices he charges for the food and coffee cheaper to drink a can of JD or JB or BUNDY and is plagued by thousands of riders from H.O.G. its IMHO nothing more than a get rich scheme best avoided like the plague better to go and have a few rounds and a counter meal at the local  but you guys might like that scene but not this big black duck  Upcoming BMW Rallies in OZ 447221

The decision will be made very soon, that much I know.

The Kosciuszko Rally(ACTBMWMCC) in the Snowy Mtns this weekend also has its own issues due to the closure of the Alpine Way.  Its being held at a different location instead of postponing/cancelling.  Seems BMW rallies are cursed this year.

Hi all, back home again from the BMW Motorrad Rally held at Bright in Victoria last weekend and I feel confident in saying that I believe I have done enough wet weather riding practise for this year. This trip of just over 2,000km had two wonderful weather riding days followed by three very wet days, which I guess added to the adventure much like our recent trip to Smithy's place on the northern tablelands.

I left home just before 6:00am on Thursday morning to rendezvous with my friend Mike who lives at the northern end of the Putty Road. Mike's selection from his stable for this trip was a very tidy 1981 R100RS. Down the famous Putty Road and into Richmond to meet up with Chuck, the next member of the riding group, who was also on his 1981 R100RS. We tracked south in good riding conditions to Jindabyne in the Snowy Mountains where we stayed at the Banjo Patterson pub overnight and met up with our fourth member, Graham, who was on his R1200ST so my K1100 was surrounded by 'R' friends. All up a nice 650km day and a good evening socialising with friends. Dick, another mate of my riding companions arrived for the overnight stay just to catch up and enjoy the evening but had to return home on Friday morning.

The bikes in Cooma on the way south.
Upcoming BMW Rallies in OZ Img_2518

The view from our room at Jindabyne.
Upcoming BMW Rallies in OZ Img_2520

Friday morning saw us head up the mountains past Thredbo and down the southern side of the mountains via Tom Groggin with a stop at Khancoban for a cuppa.

A brief stop at Tom Groggin.
Upcoming BMW Rallies in OZ Img_2525

When we left Khancoban I was on the tail end and as I changed from 4th to 5th my clutch cable snapped however I didn't want to pull up just there to fit my spare cable so continued on for about 100kms polishing up my clutch-less gear shifts until the boys ahead stopped near Tallangatta at a pleasant roadside rest area. It was a bit of a challenge getting through town at Corryong.
Once the repair was completed we were off on the final leg of the day into our destination at Bright.
My K amongst the R's at our motel (there was a 1984 K100RS in there to balance the equation a bit).
Upcoming BMW Rallies in OZ Img_2522

A good social evening at one of the local pubs ensued on Friday evening and we awoke on Saturday to the predicted rainy weather. Our little group decided that we didn't need to ride today after 1,000km over the last two days when there was a whole host of cafes and pubs to visit right there in Bright. So we started with a leisurely breakfast and moved through a number of establishments during the day to prime us up for the rally dinner that evening. During the evening it was decided that we would head south on Sunday morning over Mt Hotham, 1681 metres, down to the south coast of Victoria to a little village of Marlo located at the mouth of the famous Snowy River.

As predicted, Sunday morning revealed lots more rain so I donned some additional warm layers for the ride over the summit of Mt Hotham. Soon after we started the climb the fog reduced visibility to about 20 metres and the rain was lashing us. It was a challenge to keep the rider in front in view and as we reached the altitude where the snow poles are positioned on the road side the wind ramped up big time, however the challenge was not over, as we approached the summit the rain turned into that lovely white fluffy stuff known as snow. Two of the guys pulled into a shelter just over the summit to feverishly search through their panniers for warm layers to quell the shivering and we joined them just to get out of the wind. Once the shivering of my companions subsided we all headed off down the southern side towards Omeo. It's marvellous how much the weather improves when you drop 1,000 metres in altitude.
A nice little spot for a break by the riverside south of Omeo.
Upcoming BMW Rallies in OZ Img_2523

The weather from here on to Marlo was only intermittent rain which seemed pretty nice relative to the mountain crossing.
The outlook from the pub at Marlo where the Snowy River is on one side and the ocean on the other.
Upcoming BMW Rallies in OZ Img_2526

The pub is basic but cheap and the owners are keen to have motorcyclists as guests. Food was good and a pleasant evening had by all. Monday morning was, you guessed it, raining and we set off for breakfast at the cafe at Cann River. Over breakfast it was decided that we would push for home since it looked like rain on and off all day. Graham bid his goodbyes and followed the coast road home and the other three of us turned north towards Bombala.
We fuelled up at Cooma and Marulan and I rolled into home at 7:00pm after 12 hours and 830km on the road.

Here's a link to a map of the trip.

Cheers

The 2016 Far Cairn Rally, to be held in 2017 will be on the weekend of 25th/26th March. Put those dates in your diaries if you want to be there.  The regular September rally will also be held.

Now 30/4 - 2/4/17

I caught up with some of the old Krew of the BMW Klub last Saturday night and sort of received an answer from someone who started drinking earlier than I about why the Kane Toad did not occur this year. Due to the storms around Boonah and Beaudesert we delayed our departure and arrived late with only a dollop of rain as we crossed the Range.

Apparently there was some discussion about the catering and numbers required by the caterer before they would commit to the event. Throw in some Klub politics, add the choice of location and the result was a non-event. Although a few hardy souls turned up on the day.

Anyway I took both the 75S and 75C out for the ride and both performed flawlesly as expected.

@TacKler wrote:I caught up with some of the old Krew of the BMW Klub last Saturday night and sort of received an answer from someone who started drinking earlier than I about why the Kane Toad did not occur this year.

I know I wont be trying again.

Karuah River Rally at Chichester State Forest near Dungog will be held from 10th-12th February.  BYO food and refreshments as usual, BBQ Sat afternoon, and brekkie Sun morning.  Always a few K forum people there. Bring your swimmers.

Far Cairn Rally v16.2 will be held at Tottenham (NSW) racecourse from Mar 31 -April 2, yes this has changed but is now confirmed, do not go there Mar 24-26 as there is something else happening that weekend.  FCR v17.1 will go ahead in September as usual.

As usual post any questions here and I'll get on it as soon as I can.

Al

Al, is that really the Cold Flame at Tottenham in March? Or is it the rescheduled Far Cairn from 2016.

Cheers
