Aren't they very similar to the old nail pincers?

My dad had some in his toolbox...I'll see if they are still there.

Stoopid question number 32,563...you just squeeze the hell out of the clamp when you use these?

These ancient chompers were the biz for closing up tight my clamps, and they were in the bottom of the toolbox collecting rust. They'd do the biz on any irritating twat that was bothering you too. Defencively, of course.

My Grandfather was a blacksmith and I scored his old tools amongst which are a blunt set of nail pinchers to remove nails from hooves
work a treat. If only I could figure out how to get the clamps UNDONE.

Why not just bin the oeticker clamps and put some practical, easy-to-use ones in their place? Cut down on frustration, keep some room in the tool chest and money in the pocket.

i think everybody has problems finding suitable clamps brickrider .

do you have a suggestion or a supplier for something to replace them ?

I seem to remember that TWB aka Guest found some Suzuki clamps to do the job and even gave a part number as all spare parts guys will do. But I haven't found any post saying.

I'm new to K-bike ownership, but this question puzzles me. Why not just use garden-variety hose clamps (worn clamps) or t-bolt clamps? They are widely available. http://www.mcmaster.com/?orderview=new#catalog/118/274/=fybz78

Hi all,

As promised I'm sharing the part numbers for those pesky re-usable clamps which secure the throttle body to the air box and cylinder head.
They're all black, and come in two different sizes (48mm and 46mm), part numbers 09402-48208 and 09402-46208 respectively.

Hopefully this will helps someone who's re-building their baby in the future.Suzuki clamp 09402-48208

Just bought a set of these clamps. Might be worth investing in the Oetiker tool and clamps in future. Local Suzuki shop charged me $8.50 for each clamp. Glad I only needed 4.
The parts guy could not find a listing for the part number of the 48mm clamp 09402-48208 so I took a gamble and got the 46mm clamps.
The fit is perfect, however with the addition of the screw and associated bits, a bit of jiggery pokery is needed to make them clear the throttle bits that move when you accelerate (this forum is teaching me all the teknikal lingo).

Thanks Charlie, I have some side cutters and should have bought the oke ekiet bmw clamps, but I did not want to wait for delivery. Next time I will make sure I am not in so much of a hurry impatient.

oetiker? is it a name or an anagram. Original Equipement Technical Implement Kseries Engine Repairs, I also thought it had a small bar or was it called anvil to start the claming or help it get started, you know start the roll or bend (as in benda the bloody spoon) Rim band? or other tooling or am I off on the wrong track here Seem to remember using one on some large ducting say about 12inch or there abouts maybe semens containers joint housings etc

My 2c worth... when i replaced TB rubbers, I ended up using good quality nylon zip ties instead of those clamps. It all worked well.

Another possibility is clamps that is used for driveshaft gaiters on cars.

Home Depot also sells the "use once" clamps, their used for pex water hoses.

And on this side of the puddle, I found these at overflow for $9.

Overflow is a local variety store, they sell a bit of everything.

I keep thinking about all of these wonderful examples people are "finding" that do such a great job of closing these clamps. The truth is, they may be adequate but they far from doing the best correct job of closing the clamp to the proper torque without damaging it in the process.
In order to properly close these clamps and insure that the center of the ear loop doesn't bulge outward away from the clamp (thus reducing it's holding ability) there must be 3 forces all acting at once. The best pliers for this job have a moving cam in the center between the 2 jaws that push down with a flat face on the bow tie center of the clamp as the jaws draw the sides together. The band has to "fold" in the correct shape to work as it's designed.
NOTE: I do have to eat some crow here because there are indeed many examples of the standard 2 jaw plier on various web pages that seem authoritatively accurate.
The tool I'm recommending here is worth considering, readily available from auto parts supply houses and quite affordable.
These pliers make the job easy to complete perfectly every single time.
Please at least consider using this very good and affordable tool. (K-D tools #3955) less than $30

and on the point of the right tool for the right job, if you're on the hunt for easier/cheaper/re-usable methods dont forget that the clamping needs to be evenly spread all the way round to minimise the chance of leaks. jubilee type clips and zip ties have an area that is not clamped so tightly.
