Went into my local dealer in Peterborough yesterday, just a tyre kicking exercise, nothing serious. I stopped buying magazines some years ago so am out of touch with what's the 'in word on the street'. Wow arn't BM's big now, tall and wide. They make the K seem neat and compact. The other thing I noticed was that the shaft drive is now on the left. Is there any technical reason for this? I presume the shaft now turns in the same direction as the engine where as when on the right ran in the opposite direction or have I got this all wrong? John

IFAIK boxers have always had the driveshaft on the left. Did you notice the rest of the list? ABS, traction control, programmable engine output (on the move!), computerised suspension..... As soon as something goes wrong you throw it away and buy a new one. Only I don't have 18000 to spend on a biannual basis.

Cardan has always been on the right side, airheads and oilheads.
The new LC boxer has it on the left side.

BMW fitting the final drive to the left hand side is not 'all new', though perhaps to some. It has been since late '04 (12 years now!) when the across-the-frame engine K1200S, and then the K1200R & K1200GT (non-brick) were released. Since then it was only the K13 & K16 series that had it until the new Wasser Boxer series got it starting in 2013.
