Has anyone seen a list identifying the valve timing for the different 16v camshafts.
To my knowledge (please correct me) There are 4 variations:
-K1/16VRS,
-K1100LT and RS(same),
-K1200LT,
-K1200RS

I'm picking up a 1200 engine that needs cams.  I have some spare 1100 camshafts, but I also have the option of pulling the cams from the 16v K100RS.

The 1200 is intended for the sidecar so torque is more important than max power.  It hardly ever gets run over 5000rpm and to be honest, even that's rare.

Al

Charlie had a post in a thread about 2year ago with the different openings and closings. Hope he can remember where it was or he can put his finger on it at home, But it is in here somewhere.

Also the resto thread of JJ COBAS that motorbike Mike did has some discussion on it

I have a chart of the 1100 cams for EU and AU the AU cams are CRAP (I'll post it if I ever find it) the inlet opens 20° later than the EU cams and that is absolutely disasterous for low end torque. Try to get a set of cams from Germany Ebay.de they are called nockenwellen. I also ran a K100 staintune with the longer K100 header pipes which brings the bottom end torque up and advance the timing 4° and you will be amazed at how much better it is to ride. On my K1100 all I have done ATM is 4° advance and it is a really big improvement.

some one posted this ...cant decide if its accurate or not as I haven't played with many 16 valve machines at all \
but I would suggest there is probably some differences

markyboy had both an rs and an lt k1100 not long ago ...and mentions that there was a fair bit of difference between the two

but to me the intake cam on the k1100 needs some serious reworking  ...possibly just advance it 15 degrees or so ..but needs  defiantly a longer duration by about 20 degrees ?

That's the one I couldn't find and it is accurate Ingepedia told me that the better cams are available in EU

It's true that the K1100 cams don't make much power but DO make for a nice flat torque curve that I would expect suite a side car very well.
I have an 1100 engine with 1200RS cams in my Cobas replica and don't think they're for you. My K1100LT has the flattest torque/power curve ever, this would be ideal for you. I have a 38,000 mile set available if you're interested.

Mike.

Do you have any idea whether the UK cams are the same as UK.  The Aussie cams are apparently 256 degree duration where the euros are 284 degrees.  Definitely interested.

Hi Al,
I think they're 284's but I'll check it out on REAL OEM and get back to you.

Every variation of K1100 camshaft I've looked at in Real OEM so far is 256, no different to what I've got.

You're right Al.
Mine also has the 256's and they're the same as the pair I have spare. That's what the 1100's have and seem fine to me. For pulling a chair I think you'll be fine.
