Hello,
I recently acquired a spare seat for my K1100lt (1992)
It dont fit....
On checking the RealOEM site it appears the seat is from a later K1100lt model ie 94 -98
Life used to be so easy and there was I thinking a seat was a seat...anyway

question is, if I get the relevant bracketry, will I be able to fit it to my machine ??
without having to do wizardry ?

in expectation
Rod

If you go back to realoem and look at the parts diagrams, you should see the attaching parts that are different between the machines.
I have just sold the Corbin off my '91 K100RS and anything that is left bolted to the bike in that area will be chucked. Check what you need and post it on here.

Bob it looks like that K100RS is getting scattered around the corners of the Emerald Isle. Strange considering you told us it would never point north......looks like its trying to tell you something.

Whatever you say Olaf, I have little interest in visiting a place where people have to live and ride in the rain! Then there is that black drink stuff, okay I'm coming.
Have you fitted your seat lock yet? You will notice that it comes with some very expensive aircraft grade titanium bolts for free.

There are apparently only 2 types of seat but some of the attachment brackets differ slightly...good luck.

Based on my experience playing musical seats on my three bricks the first thing I would do is put both seats upside down to compare the seat pan moldings.  See if the p/n molded in the bottom is the same on both.

Does the new seat have bracketry?  If so, remove it and replace it with the bracketry from the original seat.  I would think that if the pans are the same, switching bracketry should allow the new seat to work properly.

One caution, if any screws are hard to turn use copious amounts of penetrating oil on the fasteners and let it soak in for a few days.  I had one of the internal nuts break free and spin on one of my seats.  That will render the screw unremoveable and totally ruin your day.  The only option then is to remove the upholstery and get under the foam to hold the nut.

Thanks Lad's,
Indeed the seat mouldings are quite different when you upend the seat and compare them.
I have a set of the "newer" brackets on their way, so hopefully that will sort it

adios
Rod

Titanium bolts sounds like please sir may I have some more puddings.... Must make them soon.!! In truth weather has not gone cold yet so the Aga still lies dormant and cold.

Yesterday discovered I need a new cutch lever!.
