I searched but I may have overlooked the correct info. I have a 1985 k100 RT (kinda). I swapped the fairing and handlebars and all the stuff that goes along with that.
Here's where my question begins. Is there a different mount for the gauge cluster? Can the tilt be adjusted? The RT seems to be more upright than the RS. I been looking at photos to see if it is just my imagination but I don't think it is.

Yes, the RT and the RS have different mounts for the gauges. They are not adjustable. But they can be swapped.

Here's my experience.

I bought another set of clocks for my 84 K100RT. The ones I got came off an 84 K100RS. The new ones came with the mount but when I went to fit them it with the new mount which was in much better condition than my one butwas a no go. So I took off the mount and compared them side by side, they were not identical but both had the same BMW part no cast into them. The RS mount had 2 tabs at the rear of the mounting bracket which I had to cut off to make it identical to the RT mount so it wouldfit the RT. But the angle seemed to be the exact same.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I'll keep my eyes out for another mounting bracket. Or perhaps I'll add some wedge shaped washers.
Olaf, is it possible that the tabs tipped the mount further back?

It might have been that because when I tried the new ones with the mount on I couldn't get them into position, but what puzzled me was both mounts had the same part number cast into them.

What a few here have done is to put an aluminium extrusion 15mm x 8mm from the 2 holes on the top clamp where the gauges bolt to the 2 corresponding holes on the bottom clamp and mount the gauges on those bars. That way you can choose the angle and height as they do stick up a fair way when there is no fairing.

Make your own mounts from scratch to suit you - that's what I did with both of my bricks because I wanted the panel lowered. I used 3mm steel. You should be able to use the original mount to work out the offset to the instrument panel mounting holes.

[Edit] 2mm steel will probably do - 3mm was what I had handy.

I've done a custom headlight mount on both of my K bikes and used two different mount brackets for the instruments (because that was what I could find at the time of each project), I then fabricated a custom piece to attach the particular bracket to the forks at the height/angle that I wanted. I have posted photos below, one off an RS and one off an RT. This approach may save a little time in comparison to fabricating the whole bracket from scratch as Dai has done by the sound of it.

On my K1100LT the OEM instrument mounting was integral with the main front fairing bracket.

Good luck.
Cheers
