HI Guys,

The wife is not happy, she says that there is far to much smoke coming out when I start up in the mornings (the bike not me) (although) anyway, centre stand is snapped and awaiting repair so sits on side stand, in the morning (can be cold and damp) I get a fair bit of blueish smoke out the exhaust, I've put it down to 38 years old andsidestanded over night (I know sidestanded isn't a real word but if we all start to use it, then who knows!!)is she rightly worried or just wanting me to get something else?

It's a 1983 K100 RS that liveson thedamp and wet Isle of Wight, UK

Cheers All

Search the forum for smoke and you will get a lot of comments.

In short the early K100's will do this when left on the side stand, I know my 87 onewill but never seems to actually use any oil.

Get your centre stand fixed Smile

Tilting the bike to the right after shut down for 30 sec helps partially to cure excess smoking. Or you could try nicotine patches.
Regards Martin.

Put a K1100 stand on and it makes it easier to get onto the centre stand and is heaps stronger.

Maybe a silly suggestion but check the oil is at the correct level. A little too much and they will smoke. I'm not ware than any of mine smoke but I rarely 'sidestand' (good word) mine. Cheers

Nothing to be alarmed about, as in nothing to be alarmed about on the K.

Early ones can produce a wonderful cloud of smoke if you don't do as suggested before leaning the bike on to the side stand, kick stand or prop stand. But they most likely don't use any oil.

Best think maybe is to have a second K. They need to show who's boss....!
