Just today I picked up this titled 12/92 US K1100RS which the PO had decided to strip and 'customise' but ran out of time, money and interest. Actually, it was dropped off at my house!

I got two plastic boxes ful of spares, plus two complete sets of K1100RS fairing parts including bracketry & hardware, headlights, etc. It needs a seat and he has chopped the frame rails off, welded up the stubs and painted the frame, swingarm and gearbox. Dig those red-painted calipers! The exhaust isn't cracked and it's a catalyst/O2 sensor model. There's a robust-looking FOX shock on the back with remote, and some sweet Bridgestone BT016 radial tyres over blackened wheels, too. Apparently the alternator is toast. I have spares.

The odometre says just 55,000+ miles...

I attached a battery, plugged in the Motronic, opened the cap and sniffed the fuel (yep, furniture polish), connected up a piece of fuel hose, switched on the key and she fired and settled into an 1,100 RPM idle - no smoke. I see a fun project in my immediate future. I've traded two new Bridgestone T30 EVO GT radials, $50 and a new pair of Black Brand summer gloves (saleman's samples) for the lot. That's about $210 for the goods at my cost. How'd I do?

Sniff...can you smell that? I think it might be bullsh*t.

What does that make it now? 8 bikes in the barn? Love the deal. Only way it could be better is if it happened to me!

Six hours later the K11 has been stripped to the engine and driveline. The more heavily reinforced, and legally titled, K11 frame will be lowered over the Big Block. I have never registered the BB's '89 K100 frame due to the complications of it having a Pennsylvania salvage title. This leaves the K11 Paralever, gearbox, Marzocchi front end, 17" wheel and 305mm discs for the RS in red at home in Queensland. Those extra K11 fairing sides, sidecovers and belly pan would look good on the red rocket, too!

Another cappuccino project successfully converts a low mileage K bike into a pile of almost worthless parts.

$210! Why can't I find those deals?

There's truth there. The real problem for resurrection with this one was that the rear frame rails were shortened massively, meaning it could not easily be made viable again as a two seater, but this frame is ideal for my Big Block. The leftover panels and the mechanicals mean other partial bikes can be restored or realised. For example, I have a K75RS in mind.

A K75RS is something that's been on my mind for a couple years since seeing one that I think the duck had built.

Having converted a K100RS with the 1100RS fairing I am pretty sure a K75 shouldn't be too hard.
