Screw them.

One of my good friends owns a bar and restaurant. She welcomes bikers because they SPEND MONEY. They buy food and beer. They do shots. They have a good time playing the juke box, pool table and darts.

Not once has she had a problem. The riders who come to her bar are working guys and professionals with good paying jobs. Thay are loud, have fun, but are well behaved for the most part. They mix well with the other, "more respectable" patrons.

If this chain doesn't want biker business, I am sure there are other mom and pop pub owners who will welcome their business and roll out the red carpet for them.

With country pubs going out of business all the time due to the general need to drive/ride to get them playing against increasingly strict drink driving laws and penalties in the UK (quite right too), the remaining ones have tended to turn to the food and accommodation sides of their business to stay afloat. Arbitrarily banning motorcyclists, seems to be a pretty stupid way of doing business, especially as most of us like to stop off for a tea/coffee and/or a bit of nose-bag while out and about on our bikes - and some even enjoy the comfort of staying over (even more income generated for the accommodation and the bar takings).

Let's hope all bikers boycott the brewery chain....or maybe a little direct action would be even more fun - get a group of bikes to turn up and block the car parks at peak time (meal times) - making a point of not being allowed access? Even more fun would be to have some bikers reserve tables for dinner and some drive their cars to the pub while others go by bike - then, as soon as they hear the bike riders being refused admission, they could "confess" to also be being bikers and immediately cancel their reservation and leave the pub with empty tables!!

Fortunately, these Sam Smiths Brewery luddites don't have any places near me.

As well as emailing the brewery, you can also show support by going to the following trip advisor link and clicking the "thank the reviewer" button where bikers have given negative reviews...I just have!
https://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Restaurant_Review-g186364-d3584554-Reviews-The_Royal_Oak_Pub-Sheffield_South_Yorkshire_England.html
These negative stats will quickly impact the pub's business and perhaps they will think again.

Poor old UK, it was going down the pan when I left in 2004 and now it is sliding even deeper.
Would not use a pub that bans bikers even if I was in a car.
I never even buy stuff over the internet from the UK anymore because of brexit, if they want to become totally independent from everyone then let them get on with it.

Where ever you live, send your comments to: sales@samuelsmithsbrewery.co.uk
You will get the following automatic reply back from this email address:

"Thank you for your email. Please note that this inbox is monitored solely for orders or enquiries relating to the online store where you can purchase bottled beer and merchandise. We cannot help with any general brewery queries or trade orders.

If your message relates to an order you have placed or wish to place we will get back to you as soon as possible. If not, we will endeavour to redirect your email to the correct recipient however to follow up further or for a direct response please contact the Brewery reception on 01937 832225, open 8.30am-5.00pm Mon-Fri."
Swamping their sales desk with complaints rather than orders may still have the benefit of hacking them off!!

The brewery invites all other "contact us" contact by telephone or in writing - so I have just posted my "old fashioned" letter to them and will see what I get back.

There is a Samuel Smith pub I went to in London on Wednesday as I was up there to see 'Bat Out Of Hell' the musical, the pub was full of people waiting to go to the show as it's next door, maybe we should ask about there no biker policy there? It seems they are picking and choosing who they want to serve in certain pubs.

On a side note, if you get the chance to see 'Bat Out Of Hell' do it! It was amazing!!!
