Hey everyone-

I might buy a nice 1985 K100RS from a buddy soon. Going to see it this Monday and will make a list of things it'll need. He's a long-time airhead guy who also dabbles in Guzzi's. He's had the bike 10 years and says it *just* needs the bodywork put back on and a few gaskets ("nothing really major"). He's a straight forward, honest guy so I trust his word.

I'll get hard bags with it and he'll sell it to me for $600. I'm sure it'll need tires and a battery at the very least. I've never owned or ridden a BMW. I've had 3 Guzzi's (two 850T-3's and one 850T) and a variety of older Japanese bikes. I'm also no seasoned mechanic but I've been tinkering on cars, trucks, motorcycles for 30 years. I use forums, manuals, friends, etc to help me with what I don't know.

As far as this bike is concerned, I will be researching what I can before looking at it. So far, I know I have to make sure the splines are okay. I'm all ears to tips, advice, etc. I'll post pics when I can.

Hi Matt, $600 sounds like a deal if it's "all there". The inline 4 cylinder motor will be WAY different than a Guzzi twin in feel and performance. I've also got a V11 Sport and a K100RS, so have some experience there.

Look at this:

Thanks for the link, Club_C!
Looks like I won't be missing the v-twin torque, either.

Since I went to UW I'm a Husky fan. (But I do root for The Ducks when they're not playing The Huskies.)

Bummer- I had to pass; title not in his name, prior owner now deceased, took a rear-ender (frame has a couple dimples), hasn't run in 10 years, won't include the bags, and it'd need all fluids changed, tires, both splines lubed, etc, etc.
However, at $600, it would make a nice parts bike, and it has less than 40k on it.

Still interested, though. Would prefer an '85 K100RS, but would consider a K75. Going to check the classifieds here now...

He gives new meaning to the description "straightforward, honest guy." Shocked

HA! Yeah- I was a bit surprised to hear about those pesky little details after driving 30min to see it. scratch

Side note (that I'll bet has been asked and answered), but has anyone ever mounted a right side kick stand? Seems that would minimize the oil seeping into the cylinders and coughing smoke upon start up. Would that be legal? Would it even have an effect? I won't ask any more questions in this post. All future general questions will be in the proper forum topics Smile

Just put it on the center stand. Problem solved.
