49 yrs old. Had my M license since 16 but have never owned a bike. I've ridden a "non-BMW" bike for the last 13 yrs at work. Now I'm out to get a bike for myself against the wife's wishes. I've settled on a earlier K bike and that has brought me to your site. Looking forward to reading to assist me in choosing a motor.

Regards

Rick

Welcome to the asylum!  Where in Ontario are you located?  There are a fair number of Brick owners in the GTA.

Hi Rick welcome to the Knuthaus.
A bit of advice on buying would be to get a K75 they are a tad down on power but still all that is needed, much smoother than the K100 or K1100 and there is a model for every taste. Don't let that put you off a 4 cyl as they are very good but then we are very biased but only because they are the best. Laughing

A K75 run above 4,500 RPM has decent power. Why people are afraid to do that is beyond me.  You can bounce it off of the rev limter and it won't care.

Get a K75 for the smoothness or a 4 valve K100RS or K1100 for the much better front brakes and paralever rear end.

Hi Rick, welcome!

I'm here in Ontario as well.  I bought an '85 K100 earlier this year and couldn't be happier.  If you look through the site you'll see that a lot of folks own multiple versions of the K.  I'd happily do this also if I could get more past my wife.  What that suggests is that any K is a good K and every K is the right one.  Duck is quite right when he says to take them above 4500 rpm.  On the K100 in 5th gear that will put you past the speed limit in many places.  They are quite interesting to work on also and the technical support here is phenomenal.

Cheers, Andrew

Thanks everyone. I live in Petrolia. Southwestern Ontario. Thanks for the quick tips so far. I purchased a 1987 K75S today. Looks all original. Half decent shape. I pick it up next week after it's safetied and licensed. Wife isn't as psyched as I am........Can't wait. The dealer is putting a new front tire on and battery.

WelKome, the K75S is a very fine first choice for a taste of the K bike genre.
