Be afraid.. etc. There will be another LunchboKs.
Took a trailer load of things back to Guyra yesterday and accidentally bought a bike along the way. affraid ( as one does)
Looks like an 84RT. 79,000km on the clock. Plenty of work to be done....including the building of a sidecar to go on it but I'm looking forward to the fun!Picking it up next week.

Thanks for the friendly welKome bacK.

Craig, it's a hard addiction to beat. The Triumph remains a magnificent motorcycle in the modern sense and does some jobs exceptionally well, the lacK of a K bike however needed to be addressed. Thanks for the offer of help. It should fit on the box trailer and doesn't have far to go.

Glad to hear you getting back on the K so to speak .
Given my current ailments with shoulder and muscles from previous injury , there is a spare chair here. Be good to see it get a new home that kares.
Well done .

well blow me down , that was quick sean ...
that bike has a 86 or later tank

wonder if the frame mounts for it line up as the 84 models don't have the mounts for the tank built on ? (more a flat bar across the frame I think )
but really shouldn't be too much of an issue

geez wish I could weld , may have a similar issue in the future myself

welcome back !!

Sold to the unassuming man in the corner . Thanks Sean . Glad to see it go to someone who can appreciate the worth of a K chair .
Can't wait to see the progress of it all.

The chair in question is a DJP original with a 10"inch Mini Cooper wheel , fitted with a handbrake to the chassis .
Meets all RMS requirements . All that is needed is a suitable subframe .
Might need a new tyre on that wheel also Sean.

Thanks Ed, it will be a beauty! Am looking forward to getting into the project and will bore everyone to death post progress reports as I go.
We're putting up a new shed in Guyra as well to house the steeds. Thinking of putting a little stove in there as well. Hehe.
Charlie yes it was quick! I got to talking to a bloke I know in Guyra and he has a lot of bikes sitting in his shed and I spied the K model sitting there.
How much do you want to sell me that bike for? I asked... and the talk began. As far as I know it's an all 84 model. Compliance plate says 7/84 anyway. He says it was parked with the keys in it and hasn't been ridden since... but as you say.. all will be revealed when I take possession of it. Needs plenty of work... though he swears he had it running really well but it has no fuel pressure. Put in a new fuel pump but that ahsn't fixed the problem... will need new o-rings in the injectors etc etc etc and maybe that return line piece in the tank renewing. The motor will have to come out of the frame anyway to paint the frame so it will get a good looking at.
I've had a small stick welder sitting in my shed for 2 years now and still haven't learnt to weld! Maybe Craig can teach me sometime.

Charlie - a serious piece of advice if you're considering stick welding. Do not under any circumstances buy a cheap welder as you'll get frustrated with it very quickly. Buy an inverter welder; my current one is a TIG/arc setup and cost around AU$450 but you can weld sh!t to a blanket with it. Okay, maybe not quite that, but it will deal with 1mm 303-grade stainless with no problem at all. It just laughs at mild steel. I'm self-taught and one thing I have found utterly invaluable is before starting a job, take two bits of scrap of the same type of metal as you're about to weld and stick them together as a test piece. That way you know your amperage and material reaction before you start on the real job.

yes I believe that the inverter welders take heaps of challenges out of the art  of arcing up  to start with .

for me finding a place to even practice  seems a challenge ..so far ...thanks for the tips

My RT is also 84 and same colour, but 08/84, no is 0022575. The engine is 32/84.

Fuel tank on these is bolt down and they also have a fuel pressure sensor you can get rid of, so if you are ordering the little vacuum caps you need 4 not 3. If its 84 and not a bolt down tank then some wring mods may have been done for the altered fuel pump wiring.

One reason I have put a lot of tlc in mine is that it doesn't have that K 4,000 rpm buzz or vibration.

Luckily the only rust on it is surface orientated and will come off very easy .
It is good to see it will get a good new home .

Olaf I don't actually pick it up until Friday so it will be interesting to see how it all fits together. I imagine this might be a reason why it sat for awhile. Exciting times ahead!
