Hi community. This is George from Crete Island Greece.
This is also my '85 K100RT
Bike has about 100000 km on it and been stored for tha last 10 years.
Took it to my service guys,  swapped the fuel pump (with an aftermarket one), all the fuel line parts replaced, cleaned the injectors, all fluids replaced, new battery and the holly beast roared again.
I took just 15 km of ride though since the registration paperwork is not finished so its an illegal moving vehicle.
After getting the lady home i noticed the following:

K100RT resurrection try Dscf6210

a. The neutral indicator (green) is not functioning
b. Speedometer and Tachometer dead.
c. What is this hose? It should be free floating? (picture 2)

K100RT resurrection try Dscf6211

d.Any idea where this cable should be attached? (picture 3)
It was floating in the back of the instrument cluster
K100RT resurrection try Dscf6212
K100RT resurrection try Dscf6214
K100RT resurrection try Dscf6213

Really thank you in advance for any help!

Pic1: If the gear position indicator works (indicates zero) then the neutral light is probably blown.
Pic2: It's a battery overflow hose. Throw it away if you have a sealed battery fitted.
Pic3: One wire is green-black. What colour is the other? (green and what?). I'm wondering if it's for the windscreen motor drive.

Thanks Dai
The other one is just green. My windshield though is not motor driven

check the fuses , could explain why the instruments aren't working ?

I would just insulate both those wires for the moment (and from each other ) till you can chase down where the wires come from ...perhaps something as an after market thing , now removed ?

good luck

I'm seriously tempted to say 'bodge job'. The green and green/black wires never come together in the same place. Does the bike start when it is not in neutral or does it always have to be in neutral? If it always has to be in neutral, put the bike on the mainstand, knock it into first gear and pinch the wires togther. Now try to start it. If it does try to fire up then someone's bodged the clutch switch. Those wires quite obviously have been soldered to something at one point which is not OEM.

Alternatively, can you trace where the other end of the wires go to?

Thanks Charlie.
I have checked all the fuses, everything intact. The only think that doesnt operate is the Neutral light and the Speedo. As for the speedo i think is a faulty pickup sensor.
No, i did not remove anything from the bike. I noticed these wires after removing the instrument panel so i m not sure if i detached it by mistake without noticing.

didn't mean that you may have removed some thing , perhaps a previous owner ?
possibly the sensor is a good place to look as they gather metal over the pickup area , a wipe - clean is often all that is required  ...but under the right hand side cover is where a connection from the pickup sensor to main loom sits
these connections often corrode , and need a clean up , so try there also .

whilst in the same area you will find the gear position sensor connection to main loom (4 pin plug/ socket )   try cleaning there also

good luck

My wiring diagram says green/black and green are for UK spec driving lights.  Don't have any idea if that helps...

Damn - you could be very right on that point. Anything post-'03 in Europe (not just the UK) has to have a permanent headlight on.

Yup, it looks that it has to be the lights. Thanks guys Smile

Now lets jump to the next challenge. Gear indicator switch.
Display shows 4 when in neutral, no green light, etc etc.
Need to use clutch lever to fire it up.
So tried to clean the connector that was really full of white corrosion powder, no luck though.
Checked, dissasembled the instrument cluster too but everything seems in great shape inside. no corrosion everything clean and clear as new.
I guess i ll have to pull out the switch from the back of the gearbox prior check and lubrication.
Is there any chance to do it without dissasembling the swing arm etc?
Is removal something i can do with the bike on the center stand?

Thanks

yes you can park the bike on the centre stand  and pull the swing arm

our old mate sidecar paul installed some resistors to help in the wiring to his gear position sensor ...what this does is hold some current through the switch , to keep the contact areas clean  and also to force the logic to show the correct switch position on the lcd ...and obviously then the start circuit
which comes from  inside the instruments gear switch decoder board

if you search the forum  you may find the original post

good luck

Sadly, it looks like the actual gear indicator switch is not working. Happily, it's usually an easy fix to dismantle, clean and re-seal. (Often the failure is due to the factory seal cracking up with age and letting in water and road crud.)
Sadly again, it's a pain to get out because it's on the back of the gearbox in the tight space in front of the swing arm. You wanted to dismantle that to grease the drive shaft splines anyway, didn't you?

Good luck,
Bill

On the GPI switch you have at the connector 3 signal wires and ground....
and the 3 signal wires is grounded in various config.
The signal wires is yellow with a tracer, ground wire is brown.

If it shows 4 in neutral it could be open circuit in the yellow/white signal wire.
Then the GPI gonna show:
1 - 5
N - 4
2 - blank
3 - blank
4 - 4
5 - 5
