Finally made / found some time to put output staff back into motor.

Haynes and BMW both refer to using Three Bond 1110B or Loctite 273 between the main bearing outer race and the housing

I have neither. However I do have loctite blue and some grey RTV gasket sealant

Looking at pics of both the recommended items on the internet seems to show: Three Bond is like a gasket sealant while loctite seems to be the typical red thread locking fluid.

To me these would appear to be quite different products.

Anyone got experience on which one I should use?

I noticed that there is some marking on the housing - I assume from the bearing outer race moving in the past. I will ignore this and not replace it (as mentioned in the manual)

Thanks
Guy

Bit of a blast-from-the-past, that one. Three Bond 1110B is a bearing gap sealer, not the gasket cement we're all so fond of. It was the equivalent of the Loctite 273 but as Rick says, something more modern is called for.

Thanks for the replies, Gents.

Will get to the auto shop if one more search doesn't locate the red loctite I know is lurking in the shed somewhere.

Regards

Guy
