I was just wondering if someone could point me in the direction of finding out what the maximum stress the frame can handle before it breaks, as BMW surely must have tested this its just whether its public information.

Thanks,

I have no documentation data, but can conclusively say that a K100RS frame deforms when hit from behind by a 2800 pound vehicle travelling 75 MPH.Frame Stress Tolerance Measurements In_the10

I'd venture to guess that you're probably not going to readily find that information, especially in a easily-digested format for the layman. There are many stresses placed upon the frame, from many directions both statically and dynamically. The steel chosen for the frame will elastically deform, then plastically deform before is cracks or breaks (which I guess is the numbers you are seeking). I can imagine that BMW used FEA software like CAEDS (in the day) or Nastran or Abaqus to design these frames and they are not about to release the models into the public domain.

Is there anyway to find out what sort of steel they used at its elastic properties? Just want to know how far off its elastic limit it is. Ye thats fair enough something tells me its an impossible ask.
