Has anyone worked out alternative rubbers that fit a front and/or rear brake master cylinder. 

Surely there is something other than the $193 for the front piston and rubbers it cost me a few years ago at the local dealer.

I was thinking that errr... a Daihatsu Micra might have worked. Can only be a case of matching the internal and external diameters.

AFAIK all the manufacturers use inch sizes except BMW motorcycles who use metric. Have a look around on fleabay for aftermarket M/Cs. .75 got one a while ago and I snagged one that will do the job but needs some parts made. I tried to get back to the Chinaman I bought one from but they change the trading name so the warranty don't catch up with them. The one I got was for a mid 90s Yamaha trail bike if that helps.

I've been running a Chinese master cylinder for nearly 12 months. Easy conversion and cheap at $13.33 Au including freight. Quite a few guys are now running them with no issues to date. http://www.motobrick.com/index.php/topic,9364.msg90596.html#msg90596 We have a shop locally that sleeves front master cylinders fits new piston and cups with a guarantee was $200.00 Au. He will ship, and once sleeved a replacement set of cups was around $10.00 Au.Regards Martin.

All my brakes are working. I was picking up on another thread and remembered the cost of the MC kit - all because the rubbers needed (so my father in law reckoned) replacing. 

So I thought someone must've just found some rubbers to fit ... for a whole lot less money. 

Interesting that the Japs were not using metric unlike BMW. 

Still can't believe there is not a cheap and easy alternative (re-sleaving aside). I figure there is a method for working out the ID of the MC and the OD of the shaft and voila! Down at the local brake shop for half of bugger all is some dusty rubbers. Sounds so easy...

I am far from home, but I recalled buying a MC kit at Beemer Boneyard.
The master Cylinders are MAGURA, and you can find kits on Fleebay.
BMW sued Magura for advertising rebuild kits for K bikes, but they are still making them.

The guy that does the sleeving in Brendale also advertises cups and boots. If I had a old front master cylinder or cups it might be possible to go down and see if he could come up with something. Due to the fact that he can only get the stainless sleeving in imperial the conversion is imperial. If someone has old front master cylinder rubbers they are willing to send me I would be willing to see what is possible.

 I have talked to him about rear master cylinder sleeving and he doesn't like doing them as invariably the black plastic part that takes the supply hose breaks on removal. He then has to machine up a new one out of brass. However having run a Chinese one for nearly 12 months with no problems and better feel I will continue down that track. Apparently you can get rubbers for the Chinese master cylinders but at $13.33 Au complete why would you bother.

A mate who I also bought a couple for told his mate about them. His mate rang me asking whether I had a spare, and would I be willing to sell it, as he had a run coming up and his OEM cylinder had failed. I sold him my spare which I immediately replaced. Last time I talked to him he was more than happy with it.
