It's now over 10 years that I was able to run this forum at a very little cost, but the inevitable happened.
Forumotion the host of the forum had set a new structure fees, and if we want to continue enjoying the same type of service, the cost will be increasing.
The second thing is that I lost access to a corporate server where a lot of documents and manuals are stored. I retired 2 years ago, and they finally decided to cut my access. I have all the data backed up on my personal computer.
Long time ago, the forum members made generous donations and it has helped me to maintain the quality of the K100-forum for many years

In order to maintain what we have (domain name, no advertisement, picture hosting ….) the cost will increase to (CAD)$110 a year.

For storage, I have found a provider where the cost will be approximately (CAD)$250 for 4 years.
This would provide unlimited storage as well as unlimited websites for forum members to create a page related to the K100.
See: https://www.000webhost.com/premium-web-hosting

Please let me know what you think and if you would be interested to make a donation in order to insure that the forum continue to exist in its actual form.

Thanks

CF

As I don't want to publish my Paypal account on the open world, Please check This post to find where to send any donation. You have to login to the forum to see it.

In a word Yes I will be quite happy to donate to keep it going.

I shall start it off with a $20CAD,and I am sure that in short order we can get enough together to keep things going.

Thanks Rick.
As I previously got offers to help participate to the expense of running the forum, I don't think it will be a problem.

Thanks to all.
I will not send a personal thank you yet as the donations are coming on quite fast.
I believe that WE will achieve our goal and I will put the money in good use for the forum members.
I am exited as I will be able to provide web space for members wanting to create a page on a specific topic.(if everything goes according to plans, I will setup a site with unlimited bandwidth, unlimited sub domain and unlimited space)
This will be great.
Thanks again.
Bert

Bert,

Have you thought about the sustainment model for this new hosting solution? What I mean is how will the costs of the service be covered over the long term once this donation campaign has been used up? Will we have a subscription model where members pay annually to get access to the forum and the tech pages?

Rob, the response has been amazing.
Asking new member for a fee is certainly not the way that I would want to go. When new members will realized how much help and support they get from this forum, it should be easy to collect few bucks from them in contribution to sustain the forum and associated web sites .
Our advise and help reflects our willingness to help each others.

With what the forum's members pledged in 24 hours, I should be OK for few years (Just a bit over (CD)$500).
I think I have enough money to get the new web site subscription for the next 4 years and at least 2 years for the forum. The last funding campaign was eons ago and helped me to pay all the fees associated with the forum.
If I get more funding, I will certainly try to put it to good use for the forum members. I have ideas about sharing special tools for the K bikes, but this will be discussed later on a future thread.

Again, amazing response from the Kommunity.

Cheers,

Bert

The response to this funding campaign has been phenomenal.
In only 5 days, I received 38 donations amounting to (CAD)$1,050.

This is more than enough to pay for the expenses of the forum for the next years.
As this funding campaign proved it, members had shown their appreciation and are ready to help.
A lot of other forums (motorcycles or others) are struggling to raise the minimum fund to operate, but on our site, it was incredibly easy.

Few members asked me if I should start to ask a minimum fee for new members (maybe $5.00).
In fact, I want to avoid this solution because it could deter new people to register.
Our help and exchange of information must remain free of charge.

Now, I am starting to work on implementing new features and the money will be spent wisely over the next years.

If anybody has special request/ideas, please let me know.

A huge thank you to everybody for their generous help.

Fantastic result Bert!

I absolutely agree with your view on not charging new members and the provision of a free flow of information. As I suspect many others do, on accidentally coming across the forum when researching a K bike problem, I lurked for some time without registering because I was concerned that I would end on one of those sites where you get a tonne of spam email and a request for credit card details for a subscription that you aren't even sure you want. The forum being an obviously "foreign" site - the maple leaf being a major clue - only served to up the anxiety that registering was the just the first step in getting stung.

After some time, and reading many posts and getting a good feel for some of the characters that regularly contributed, it was still with some trepidation that I made my commitment. Four and a half years later and having met many members in person, shared stories, gleaned info and enjoyed an incredible kamaraderie, I have no regrets that I eventually took the plunge...

...BUT, if I had seen a "you got to pay to join" , then I definitely would not be here today as I would have interpreted that as a scam and run a mile!

I appreciate that these sites are not free to run and, when the need was communicated, I was more than happy to contribute a few shekels on a completely voluntary basis, as clearly a good number of others have done, and I will do so again the next time the coffers run low.

CF, thank you for doing the grunt work of keeping the forum running. It is the place I start or end my day most of the time.

Also thanks to the HEAVY hitters (do not want to name them for fear of leaving someone out), the guys that spend the time to post help, humor, and share almost daily.

If I may add: TWB, I hope you continue to post ride reports on your next ride, Hell I would pay just for those.

Ride safe all and CF let us know when you need more gas to keep the ride going.

Thanks again
caveman
