It's stretchy silicone stuff that sticks to itself without adhesive and is more miraculous than duct tape.

I always carry some now after blowing a radiator hose in Carmel one day. (And it happened on a Monday so all the nearby BMW dealers were closed. Arghhhh!)

It works great for repairing radiator hoses but has some other emergency uses too.  Not applicable to Ks but people have used it to make emergency fan/alternator belts.

The week before last I was riding down through Oregon and the chin piece had fallen off of my Arai helmet somewhere???  Fortunately I had the rescue tape on hand and used it to make the helmet better again. Very glad that I had it.

This stuff? I don't think I'll be leaving my gaffers tape at home, but looks like the biz for some emergencies.

It's also sold as Self-Amalgamating tape.  Used by sailboat riggers, and electricians for outside work.  Stays flexible and doesn't ooze sticky stuff.

I've been carrying a roll for years. The one time it might have come in handy, I forgot I had it. Ever heard of "rescue tape?" 610153

Also known as self vulcanising tape and used on the connections for satellite dish LNBs to keep them waterproof.

Here in France it's named "peau de chat". Cat's skin.
Don't ask why...

jbt I know you said don't ask why it's called skin of the cat. And I know curiosity killed the cat, but I want to know why. Until this question is answered I do believe that many sleepless night will have to be endured. I've got to know.
Regards a puzzled Martin.

In Australia best price is from Aldi (Their tape also is made in the USA). The rolls come in various primary colours as well as black. They seem to release it about very 6 months.
