Northern Tablelands Ride.
Dates for the northern ride will be 9/11 to 11/11 Saturday the 10/11 being ride day.
Usual Friday and Saturday night BBQ and camping at Riverdale.
Saturday’s ride plan would be to leave Riverdale to fuel up and get a really good coffee in Guyra before heading to Uralla top pub for lunch> Via the Tingha road to Bundarra, stopping at Bundarra then on to Uralla for lunch and to visit the brewery. Leaving Uralla we will go via Gostwyck  Dangarsleigh and back to Riverdale.
All welcome
Here is a pic of the ride loop.

I'm in as well, though it's likely to be on the Triumph again this year as little progress has been made lately with the Brick and Chair project. Hopefully the weather will warm up enough soon to do some painting but I still need to get the chair attached to the bike and an adaptor for the rear wheel.
The loop Smithy has put together is a good one, with something for everyone. The New England is still one of my favourite parts of Australia and I love being back here and riding the tablelands.

great to hear Smithy

and yes love the New England for a proper ride up in the cooler air

will be there mate

good timing to put in for an extra extra day off too.. to help with the setup ...if that's ok ?

just for a change ,  what things do you want us to bring along ?

for so many years, you not only fed us ...camped - sheltered us and provided beverages … surely there are things that we can bring along to contribute to the event ???

perhaps interesting loaves of bread …  more than few kilo's of sausages …. ill pick up more than a couple of kilo's of bacon this year as it seems to disappear so quickly

yippee !!!!

OK, so Gaz says lightweight northerners like me will instantly melt and dies from heat exhaustion, but I am very very tempted to try and get down under for this ride (taking advantage of the higher, cooler altitudes). Looking at options for flights etc.

I will have departed after six weeks in OZ for the northern hemisphere by then, so not able to attend. Better weather later in November for you all, at least.

BAE, the weather should be very pleasant up on the Tablelands in early November... mid 20's and clear and dry. ( With the slight chance of a cyclone). The ride Smithy has posted should be really nice, with just a few degrees temperature difference along the way. Down in Sydney and in the Valley where Gaz and the Hunter Krew live it will already be very warm with mounting humidity. They don't call our area up here the New England for nothing. :-)

BAE, if you can make it I'm sure we can keep your hydrated (lubricated??) long enough to get you up onto the high country where as Sean says it will be more comfortable. Exactly why those Brisbanites like Charlie enjoy that trip each year.

Of course if we get a little storm up there BAE will know what to expect having had some practise on his last visit when we tried to take him up to the 3 Sisters in the Blue Mountains.

I'll start looking for my wet weather gear now as it's been so long since we've needed it.

Cheers

Sounds like the perfect weather for riding. Oh so very, very tempting...

Well, it would take a few hours for the novelty of hot weather to wear off, so perhaps I could make it safely to the higher ground without melting. I have been looking at summer riding jackets, to make things a little more comfortable - but haven't fixed on anything specific yet.

Storms, I hope not - but, yes I remember that particular deluge very well as it cut short our ride (sensibly). Here it comes...

I can certainly handle the rain...but I could stay at home for that kind of weather!

Having recently moved house, my daily commute has dropped from 37 miles each way/day to just 1.5 miles each way. Keeps the bikes ticking over, but only just and I am need of a good ride out. With second daughter off to University next month, I'll be free during term times to go and enjoy myself properly...work permitting.

I'll have to check my work schedule (I forgot today) and make a decision, it would be a fairly short visit (like last time, but without the day job getting in the way), but I reckon another short trip to remind me what I am missing has to be better than constantly delaying my re-visit until I can plan the perfect longer trip.

Thanks Tom, I have been overwhelmed with generous offers of bed n' bikes. You guys really are amazing.

I think I have coerced Stan into joining the ride and may be selecting one his fine steeds. I booked a car along with my flight, but am definitely looking forward to exchanging that for a bike along the way. Really looking forward to the meet up and ride out.

Got to move fast in such matters Charlie - once the seed of the idea had germinated into a reality, the clock was ticking against the availability of flights at convenient times and prices. If I dithered, the cost would only be going up and become unaffordable quite quickly and someone would be bound to invent an essential work meeting for me to attend instead.

Really looking forward to meeting you to. It looks like there is going to be a really good turn out with some of the newer krew members possibly coming along too. It all promises to be an excellent gathering.

So...if there is any bike bits that anybody needs from the usual UK suppliers, drop me a PM.

I am limited to a single checked bag at 23kg and a small carry on, so heavier, bulkier bits might be a little more challenging. However, last time I visited, I managed to fit a comfort seat and several clutch parts in my bag for Tackler. If it means I have to wear my bike gear on the aircraft to make more room in my luggage outbound, then so be it!

Charlie - I have a load of spares in my garage; is there any contribution that you particularly need for your red frame project? I know you have already received a multitude of parts from all over and it would be quite cool to know that I have added a little something to the build. OK, to be honest, I probably just want to bring the dirtiest, grottiest part I can find just to see you transform it into a gleaming work of art!!

This is turning into quite some gathering - great to hear that you can make it too Klompy.

Sounds like I will need to pick up a wee dram on my way through duty free to help refill the Rosskko flask as it sounds like it might get well used (for medical purpose of course - like heat exhaustion, altitude sickness, hyperthermia, upside-down-ness, drop bear pre-bite anti-venom, spider & mosquito repellant, insomnia, jet-lag, Kpox and all manner of other excuses).

Bugger! Sad

We have some French friends coming, and at that time we'll be down in Victoria with them.

Smithy, your consultation skills need work.  Wink

But seriously, I know from experience you can't make a group ride time that suits everyone. C'est la vie.

Wishing all participants a safe and happy time of Kameraderie. I'm sure I'll catch up with people another time.

Kerry and I will be most pleased to put on a BBQ on the Friday evening ( November 9th) at our place in town for this year's ride. It will just be a simple affair... some sausages etc thrown on the bbq with breadrolls, the odd limp leaf of token salad and  delicious and enticing natural and organic green bits available. Ok so Kerry is a vegetarian.
All are welcome to come along and anyone who wants to is also welcome to stay over for the night. There is a spare room and bathroom plus 2 other sofa-type beds plus plenty of room in the backyard to throw up a tent. First in best dressed for the bedroom.
It's been a couple of years since I have been able to come along on this ride so I'm looking for to it and catching up with people. Though sme progress has bee made with my 84RT and Chair project, it won't be ready for this year, but should be on the road soon... ish. ...I hope.
Camping in Guyra... what could possibly go wrong?

Doh! Sorry! There's been a bit of a misunderstanding. There actually won't be a BBQ at our place on the Friday evening. Things will be as usual at Smithy's place.
Sorry for the misinformation.
Of course, anyone who needs a bed is still welcome at our place!
Cheers,

As we have an international visitor and some newbie’s coming this year, I was thinking we should retrace our first Tablelands ride on Saturday instead of the ride I posted.
This would take us down the waterfall way via Ebor, Dorrigo a stop at Griffiths lookout, Coffs Harbour, Sealy lookout , a ride through the rainforest and on to Nana Glen for lunch.
This will be a full day ride that will showcase our Tablelands and Coastal areas.

Good idea Smithy, down & back up the range makes for a great ride and if we ride up towards an afternoon storm coming from the west we know that BAE is familiar with what to expect since we did it to him in the Blue Mountains on his first visit.

Cheers

(Note to self - bring the wet weather gear)

As much as I would love to ride into a storm with you lot, that weekend my daughter is shouting me to see Bill Bailey in Canberra. Can't miss that.
Have a great time everyone.

Bring it on! I've got my shiny new tropical weather riding gear (un-water proof) to make light of the expected heat and as of yesterday picked up a hideously bright yellow waterproof oversuit just in case you throw another monsoon at me. That pretty much guarantees that it now won't rain ever again (unless I forget to bring it and then the weather gods will have a party).

Counting down the days - one month today and I'll be on the long haul outbound.

No bids for couriering any K parts out yet - PM me if there is anything I can bring.

Seeing a tornado is on my bucket list (but hopefully not the last thing on the bucket list though!!) - so another Guyra Tornado is virtually guaranteed not to coincide with my visit.

Great news Charlie - I'm glad I booked my time off when I did as I wouldn't have been able to take it if I had waited. As it is, I get back into the UK at 04:55 on 14 Nov and immediately have to haul my butt about 2 hours drive north (to Derby) for a 2 day meeting that starts at 09:00. Provided the flight is not delayed coming home and the traffic is not too bad, I should be able to make it. I'll have to take work clothes in the car to the airport and do a quick change in the car park!

Thanks for the route Smithy - loading it (and the route from Sydney that Gaz suggested) into my GPS today.

It was another great day for a ride here on the Tablelands, so decided to go on a reconnaissance ride of our route.
I also stopped into the Idle Inn café and made reservation's for lunch, I will require numbers a week prior to the ride.
Looking forward to catching up with everyone.

crikey Paul , with that sort of schedule , re attending the meeting , do they expect you to be making a positive contribution on the first day home , jet lagged and all ?

id be putting bets that the second day may be more productive .

good luck with the planning and travel mate !!

Camping at Riverdale ( our property ) about 20 km east of Guyra,  we will have a bbq going on the Friday and Saturday nights.
There is pub accommodation in Guyra if you don't enjoy camping.

Thanks Smithy.
I have requested leave which shouldn't be a problem so count me in.
Probably buy some supplies on route in Guyra

As this ride is getting close I'm trying to get an idea of numbers, so if you're joining the K circus for a fun weekend scratch your name on the list.
For anyone that hasn't come before that needs directions please send me a PM.
