Any of you guys know of a way to ship from the States to Australia that doesn't break the bank? I have a lot of the parts you guys are looking for but the shipping is a killer.

Not sure what the rates are now, but a few years ago I shipped an alternator to Oz and I think I used DHL which ran about $50. It seems that the past couple years have seen some really crazy shipping rate increases.

One our US west coast based members used US Post to send over a K75C fairing in May and the cost was around USD100 in postage. I believe that was slightly cheaper than the usual couriers such as DHL, UPS. Surprisingly it arrived in under a week instead of the usual slow ship via China.

I guess it all depends on the weight and volume. I cannot recall the price of DHL for small packets from EME in CO but they are reasonable and are usually here in four days.

A bit left field here but when travelling sort of regularly to the US (Virgin Australia LAX-BNE) a few years ago, an extra checked in bag under the 32kg/70lbs limit was only USD100. That is a lot of parts so just a thought.

I hope this helps.

23k is 50 lbs
32k is 70 lbs

Fly Hawaiian Airlines and get two 32k bags at no extra charge. That is how I take spares back and forth 'tween US and OZ as needed.

It's that 'volumetric' thing, where the overall dimension x the weight magnifies the cost, even if it's not a particularly heavy item. I was told it's the 'space' it takes up on the aeroplane that does it in.
