Maiden Voyage for my K100 Drumbo11
A few of my friends and I went for a jaunt to lunch yesterday.

This was my K100RT's maiden voyage. She ran great. I kept trying to find 6th gear. BMW forgot to put it on my RT Crying or Very sad

My tripmeter reset doesn't work. She just spins. is that an easy fix?

A Kettle!!!! One of the first bikes I ever rode!!!

Tripmeter - sounds like the cogs might have stripped. You'll have to pull the instrument panel apart to find out.

1. Once it's off the bike, there are either seven or nine screws in the back (depends on the age). Remove these and lift the back off carefully. There's an o-ring that goes the whole way around and it may have perished. You may need to wriggle the back over the connector pins.
2. There are five (I think) cross head screws that are the same head size as the ones you have taken out of the back but much shorter. Remove these.
3. Put your hand over the PCB and turn the instrument panel the right way up. Shake it gently. The insides will move but (most likely) will not drop out. Pull the tripmeter knob outwards against its spring and rotate it until they do come loose. There's a slot in the tripmeter knob that engages with the reset mechanism. Do this over a towel just in case the coloured warning lenses decide to go for a walk.

At this point you should be able to see if the cogs have stripped or cracked. If they have, come back to us because it gets a bit more complex from here on in. Search the forum for 'stripped cogs'.

Reassembly is the reverse of dismantling - just make sure you align the slot in the tripmeter knob with the drive shaft before gently pushing the assembly back in. For the first time it shouldn't take you more than about thirty minutes from off the bike to back on the bike. If you have the misfortune to get familiar with the procedure you'll be able to do it in about five minutes Shocked

Thanks dai. That will be a winter project.

I assume a "kettle" is the RG500? If so, that is my buddy's. It was the first RG500 sold in Northern Ireland. He bought it new and brought it with him when he came to Canada.

Nah - the 'Kettle' is the Suzuki GT750 in the middle. Assuming that it's the correct colour, that's a 1972 model.

Ah...on this side of the pond we call them "water buffalo". Yes, I think it is a '72. Ian makes the gauge bezels for these models. He has several of them. Impeccably restored.
