Finally got a day in my little shed and started the fun, discovered bike was first sold in Essex England.
Drive shaft splines are worn but I had a spare with new splines welded in and new uni joint.
Found left leg broken off the center stand luckily had a spare. Cleaned the black rubber crap from inside the tank and replaced fuel pump filter and hoses. Assembled the leading link.
Should only take ten years at this paceAnother DJP Thumbn10

Thanks Tom, I tried the nappisan inside the tank, it worked better then  thinners.

Good luck with everything.

The bike looks like it will come together (if external appearances are a guide).

What is it about K100s that invariably mean they've been neglected for nearly a decade? 3 of my 5 have suffered this fate.

I thought I had seen inside your shed Waz and it didn't look that big.

If you need parts, let me know if I can help. School is back next week and I am literally just down the road.

Takes an hour to empty the shed and another hour to pack it up. Polishing and painting a long way off. Polished headers and black bike sound good. It has been sitting too long and will need one of everything. I said I wouldn't do this again. It may one day be worth about half the amount I spend on parts. But it is fun.

Hi Waz,
Not sure if this helps but here is my Hedingham subframe with the type of stiffening you suggest.
Happy to get you some better pics if its useful.
Stu
Ps. you’re still some way from having to worry about it yet, but consider adding some short headed allens to your tool kit. Getting to the HES cover bolts can be a complete pain with these sub frames.

Here you go Waz, let me know if the pics aren’t speaking a thousand words.

In short what you are seeing is two triangles running up to the headstock, one in front and one behind the radiator.

AFAIK the rear one is simply the OEM top/front chassis member.

Note in the first or last photo the view from above with the two allen heads, is a clamp which connects the rear triangle to the front one on each side (my pic is steering lock side). I’m not sure of the detail on that as I’ve never been that close to an original chassis but I’m guessing the clamps terminate each front leg for fastening to the OEM parts somewhere on their journey from the bottom to the top triple tree.

At the front is a cross member (the one that gets in the way of the top HES cover bolt) joining the two front legs of the subframe and that stray cross piece you can see from the outside leg is the top/front chair strut (left hand chair).

All I would add is there is a lot of stuff going on down there near axle level and I had only one reasonable path for fitting a damper between chair and fork leg. If I was at the development phase I would make sure I had some well placed tabs on the chair side before I welded myself into a corner.

Have fun, Stu

Yup. The only form of lighting in the early days. The gas was fed to the tail light too. I had a 1926 AJS 350-G5 on short-term loan that was fitted with acetylene lighting. Unfortunately in the only good picture I could find of a G5, it has been modified to take a dynamo.

I also used to cave with a guy who preferred acetylene over the Oldham T3 battery setup I used, but it's banned in quite a few caves in the UK. For long trips it made sense; my battery could go flat (and it did once; right at the bottom of a sixty-foot climb Evil or Very Mad ) but all he needed to do was to find was a trickle of water. Yes, including peeing in it.
