Any generic switches for the dash unit? Similar to that of the heated grips/hazard lights.

I want to wire one up to work as the garage door opener. I'm not having much luck finding anything.

yeah they were an early iteration of a din standard , but time moves on (and bmw just love to make something just slightly different )

the new iteration of the standard is just a touch wider than the cutouts in the bmw dash

narva have a close fit unit , but as  said, it is wider , I roughly gouged out some of the steel and rubber to fit a couple , one for fan override  and another for accessory drl  (day running lamps ) some time ago ...looked ok I guess , and still working after a number of years of use

some others on here found almost an exact match at a fraction of the bmw price
but lost the link sorry

meanwhile motorworks in blighty do have second hand spares , and I believe decals (slide in icons are available to better explain the function )   but I prefer the led indicator on the narva unit ...should last a lot longer

good luck

Thanks for the reply! I was able to hone in on the answer..

They are contura style automotive switches.

If you use the self adhesive symbols be sure to coat the symbol with clear nail varnish or clear lacquer. Mine have survived QLD weather for nearly 12 months. The switches have been correctly orientated.

I don't see why one wouldn't just re-purpose a BMW switch.

If you want a momentary switch then you could re-purpose an ABS switch.  Or a windscreen switch if you want a 3-way momentary switch.

Note also that you can swap the graphic symbols on the switches.  For my garage door opener I used the insert from a windscreen switch because it has a helmet with up and down arrows in front of it.

Like the left switch of this K1100LT:

Also, Skylink brand universal remotes are 12V so can use the bike to power them and not have to worry about a battery for the garage remote.  (Some other garage remotes also use 12V batteries too.)

And if you want to be really fancy you can also add LEDs in the BMW switches to make them easy to find at night.
