I have Bridgestone BT45s on the Front and Bridgestone Spitfire s11 on the rear. Is this a good combination?

Tyres, like oil, are a can o' worms subject. Prepare for the onslaught.

If they stick and wear well, and are economical for your budget, in the environment you ride in, then yes. My favourite when using bias ply is Pirelli Sport Demon in plus-one sizes of 110/80B18 & 140/80B17 on Y spoke wheels. Some will agree, some won't, some prefer BT45, and some have an opinion of mixed brand radials on those and the three spoke 18" F & 17" R wheels.

As a new forum member first try the forum's search engine. There you will find threads about tyres and tires going back yonks.

As said be prepared for the onslaught.

I have BT45 front and rear on all the Ks. Ride all year, is cool and can be wet in winter and they cope well.

I think the combo is fine. Bridgestone is a good tyre in my opinion.
Mixing two different sport touring tyres from the same brand on a sport touring bike seems fine to me.

I am trying out the Avon AM Roadrider. Have put about 500 km on them. I like them so far although I haven"t pushed them very far, just work commute.

I wonder if the Japanese saki drinking Bridgestone designer got together with the ale swilling Pom Avon designer, and the American Bud Lite guzzling Dunlop designer, and the wine bibbling Italian Pirelli designer, accompanied by the pilsner sipping German from Metzeler to discuss their design principles so that customer's could randomly mix models and brands of tyres at will.

Most of us get away with out of a combination of dumb luck and a bit of daring, coupled with miles of experience, so it seems a reasonable idea by now. I reckon you'd get 'best performance' from sticking with the tyre in front that was designed to go with the tire in back.

You can get your boots down, no problem, on those tyres. I haven't hit the footpegs down yet but I reckon I've not been far off a few times. Last time I had the rear tyre changed the mechanic commented that I come in with less chicken strips than most of the big sports bike guys. Not sure about my riding, but it says a lot for the tyre.

I'm a big fan ofAvon AM Roadrider as well. Good balanceof wear, price, and grip, plus I like how they handle wet roads.

I ride all year and it can be cold and wet in winter. I have had different tyres in the warm summer weather and they all seemed fine. But for cold wet weather I really prefer the BT45 and I do push it on in the wet. Dai is not so far from me and rides in similar conditions to me.

Malta isn't exactly cold even in winter so that's not likely to be an issue for you.

Whatever tyres you use, I would say learn how to feel them and learn how they perform and where their limits are. Tyre pressures play a big part in how they feel.

I have been using the Avon Road riders on all my bikes ever since they discontinued the sizes that I use in the roadrunner( 90 90 18 and 100 90 18 ) .I liked the road runners , The road riders were the right size so I went with them but was worried the road riders wouldn't be as good but that fear was unfounded. Rode cross country on my Moto Guzzi 850-T on the road riders getting around 7000 miles out of them on a very loaded bike .They performed well under all conditions . I have them on my 88 K100 RS now .Did quite a bit of wet weather riding on them this past summer and they did well. I have 4000 miles on them now and they are still in good condition . So, I hope this helps.

I didn't like the Road Rider I had on the back, I thought it was okay-ish in the wet but was upset by white lines and allowed an awful lot of wallowing when "pressing on". Running it at 46 PSI helped keep it under control but it was still a bit wayward scratch Only last 5500 miles too!

Metzeler Sportec Klassik was worse in the wet but kept the bike under control in a much more convincing manner, again 5.5K was had. Now on a second ContiGo!, still a bit squirmy in the wet but perfectly serviceable and keeps the bike in line even under hard going. Tyres sure are a personal thing!

Currently have a Michelin Pilot Activ on the front with 7K on it, it's nearly at the wear markers on the shoulders and has finally started to become a little vague in the wet but it has been a delight and has lasted longer than anything else I've had up front by at least a thousand miles. Metzeler Lasertec was awful, ContiGo! was okay.
