So, earlier this year I did a 1,000 km ride to France (through Italy) on my recently acquired 2007 K1200GT - great ride, wonderful bike, but by the time I arrived I had an ache in the ball(?) of both of my thumbs (2nd joint, near the webbing in the palm).
Didn't seem to get any worse on the trip back, at least.

Can't say I noticed this on my old K100.

FWIW: I'm about 183 cm tall with long arms and I've raised the handle bars to the max. I prefer the more upright position.

It's a few months later and the ache has completely disappeared, but I'm left wondering if anyone else has experienced this?

I also struggle a bit with the riding position - it seems like the footrests [1] are at least 10 cm closer to my butt than I'm used to... I'm looking into modding the seat to lift it up a bit.

I own a K1300GT (mit cruise control) but when not using the factory cruise I use these...

K1200GT thumb ache? Thrott10
Throttle Rocker, or other brand of throttle paddle.
K1200GT thumb ache? Thrott11
Throttlemeister, the heavy duty version, or Kaoko, or other brand of throttle tensioner - they really do work to diminish high frequency vibes through the 'bars. If it's an ergo thing you're still alleviating an irritant because you don't have to grip the throttle quite so firmly.

I rode my 13 across the US and back through Canada last Summer, 7500 miles all up, and never had wrist aches as an issue.

Throttle Rocker, or other brand of throttle paddle.

If I understand, the idea is that the ache is probably caused by long term pressure (hard grip) on the throttle?

And the Throttle Rocker etc provide another mechanism to control the throttle... ?

I have cruise control (tempomat), too, but was not using it much in the mountains...
