Hi All.

Terrible news. while filtering through traffic on a dark wet evening in Limerick city i had an incident. Pulled out from behind a car while following my pal on his fj1200 and saw his taillight and then the sky followed by my bike sliding away from me.

Part idiot driving and poor attention on my part and part very wet. I mostly blame myself. Oh well. i am ok, brused ego and hip and was able to ride the bike home to the shed.

So. the damage is as follows..

All on the left-hand side.

Side faring rashed and broken, indicators front and rear smashed, screen in bits, left footpeg snapped, crankcase cover cracked, centerstand loose possibly broken, exhaust heat shield a bit scuffed. So not too bad all together. mostly bolt-on parts.

Except for the steering endstop. (see photo) The little tab that stops the forks from mashing into the tank, bent and broken off. I can't find any info on it so i am going to ask all of you for enlightenment. I am planning on welding the tab back on and replacing the rivets that act as the final stop with a nut and bolt. may end up with a crappy full lock but it beats replacing the frame which seems to be the only alternative albeit a bit extreme. Photos attached.

Thoughts, jibes for stupidity and sympathies all welcome!

Sorry to learn of your mishap.  It sounds as if you're on the right track as far as repairing the damage.  Be thankful you're not in the hospital.  It could have been worse, I suspect.

Sounds like you found a patch of diesel as tyres shouldn't let go that quick on pull-away. Nothing to stop you welding the steering lock back on. Can't remember if the bottom yoke is ally or steel; if ally, it will need specialist treatment.

I'm pretty sure it's just a little steel block welded onto the steering head.

I'd be inclined to do a frame swap but I'm a glutton for punishment.

If you are welding, make sure to remove battery and the ICU and FICU.

I may know where there is a K75RT frame too, Irish one. Come back quick as 88 [Will Crean] getting some parts off it today and I think the frame is there too. However I guess I would weld that stop back on.

As for Stradbally, if weather is bad we go on 4 wheels so come along anyway. You will be back home by about 3pm.

Good to hear you came out OK! Sorry to hear your 75s got dinged up!
The nob on the lower yoke (alloy) could be a bit tricky to weld up, you may just want to replace it.
If it makes you feel better I dinged up my pretty blue s this last summer as well. Same kind of thing where I could blame someone else but if I was paying full attention it would not have happened. Made me sick at the time but all fixed up now and hopefully yours will be soon.
Good Luck

Thanks all..

Yes, I am grateful that I fared better than the bike. Lesson learned.. eyes open + engage brain more..

Going to give welding a shot, have a friend who is a dab hand and has a welder. Motorworks parcel due for delivery on the 21st so hopefully (weather permitting) I will make the Stradbally gig.

Thanks again, everyone! will let you know how the repairs go.
