I'm hanging out at Larry's for a couple of days while I'm in LA.  Since I last visited he's gotten his hands on the very first US K100. (The side covers aren't on in this picture but he has them.)

It only has 3,600 miles because it was just ridden from a dealer to the unveiling in Denver and then back to the dealer. Larry's put about 100 miles on it.

Different countries have (or at least did in the past) different requirements for the format of VINs.  My guess would be that since this was a very early bike that it came off of the Euro production line and then got re-VIN'd before import to the US.
