Hello everyone. I'm living in Omaha and currently am on my 2nd 1996 K1100RS. This one is the black and silver special edition. I bought it w/ 17k in 2000 and now have 136K on it. Been a great bike, had a 2003 GT but never came to terms w/ it so sold it a year later w/ 15K on it. This bike is a perfect all around motorcycle. Carries a lot of stuff, goes quick and stops pretty good and has enough power for two up touring and when the twisties set it, it just works.
Its had the forks re valved before I bought it by RaceTech and I've had an Ohlins on the back since I bought it.
I found this forum yesterday after it quit running at lunch. It will start right up but seems to run out of fuel. I changed the filter last summer. Monday after work it died, restarted up and I rode it home. Rode it to work yesterday just fine, ran errands at lunch and then leaving a store it died. Will start up but then it just seems to run out of fuel. When I picked it up after work, 5hrs later it fired up and rode it on the trailer no problem. Fuel pump???
Thanks in advance everyone.
Tim

I'd recommend swapping in another fuel filter - NAPA 3032. May not solve your problem but certainly won't hurt.

Thanks for the filter number. Didn't know about that. Any suggestions on a pump alternative that doesn't require a lot of fiddling?

Try the fuel filter first, then pursue more expensive fixes after that.

Firstly, Welcome to the forum. New member from Omaha 177912

I second the fuel filter fix first. It is very easy to do, and is pretty cheap as well. I think it took me about 10 minutes to do and I was going slow because I was trying it for the first time and was being extra careful with it (I also was in a bit of a bind without a siphon so I had a bit more gas in the tank than I would have liked). I am unfamiliar with your specific model bike. However, a loose wiring connection to the fuel injection computer on my bike was driving me crazy with the intermittent starting that you're describing a week ago. Luckily in most cases it wouldn't start, but once I was riding it down the street and it cut out like I had run out of fuel after filling it not 5 miles before. I solved the problem by using a bit of contact cleaner and making sure that the clip was holding it in place.

Also when you get a chance add in your bike info into your signature.

Hope this forum can help you figure the problem (I am also a very new member and might be completely wrong)

Beamer96, I say welcome first as well.

I agree that a new fuel filter would not be a waste of time but you may need to check out your hall effect sender too. With the miles you have put on the bike and it seems that you do some commuting miles (short city trips) it could be cooked.
