In a fit of something, I bought an '85 K100RS in the early '00s, brought it home, and it promptly fell over and broke its fairing.  I reglassed the fairing, painted it, and never rode it again.  Now, I finally got my act together to ride again, and found that mice had wreaked a little havoc, so I'm here to tap the collective consciousness and get her back on the road.

First; take care of the mice. That’s my expertise sucked dry. Luckily there are plenty of others on here, welcome.

WelKome!

I'm just south of Brinnon on Hood Canal. Drop by if you ever get it roadworthy. Laughing

You can also call me for free advice but my advice will be worth exactly what you pay for it.

Thanks for the sage advice.  The mice and rats come and go, unfortunately.  While sweeping up, I did find a desiccated little mousie, and I like to think he reaped what he sowed by gnawing a couple of holes in the coolant overflow tank and drinking some antifreeze.

The bigger issue is replacing the wiring harness to the injectors that got gnawed on.  The boots are thrashed, and some of the wiring exposed.  Getting to all the connectors is somewhat of a pain, and I think I'm going to have to drain the coolant and remove a hose to be able to unlock one of them.  Argh.

Are you referring to the connector for the temp sensor on the pipe coming off of the left front of the engine?  You don't need to remove the radiator to get to that.

You can get to it by removing the mass airflow sensor and bottom half of the airbox.

Welcome to the forum.
Vashon Island, eh? Now there's a storied location among fanciers of vintage machines. It's been on my "to-do" list since forever, and I invariably miss it.  Rolling Eyes

If you'd like a nice 85 K100 motor that has everything on it redone and just needs a frame and bike around it then I have one in my garage.

A couple years ago I was going to build a custom purple and gold (I'm a UW Husky) K100 but right when I got ready to drop a frame onto it I got my hands on a K75 turbo that distracted me and put the K100 project on a permanent back burner.

It's got about 50K on it but runs strong. Before I took the donor 85 K100RT apart I got it running just to make sure that the motor was good. Then I stripped it and refurb'd everything on it for my project.

Welcome!  Are you aware that the engine wiring harness is separate from the rest of the wiring and can be replaced without replacing the rest of the bike's wiring?  The harnesses are not all that scarce at places like eBay.  In fact, the Duck may have one somewhere.

While the idea of a brand newish engine is tempting, I'm trying to keep things to minor projects right now!

But I sure would be interested in a replacement engine wiring harness (#61 11 1 459 520, on fiche #61_2724) if you've got one.  Otherwise, I'll buy one off eBay.  And it looks like the only other part I need is a coolant overflow tank with no mouse holes in it.

The problem with getting the stupid plug off the temp sensor is that the wire clip opens facing the coolant hose, and all my attempts to remove the clip have been fruitless.  So, remove the hose will give me access to that side of the plug.

Thanks,

Allan

With a beer under my belt and renewed vigor, I tried one last time with my pick and got the stupid metal C-clip off the plug, creating a much more pleasant evening than I was entertaining!  When I put its replacement on, rest assured I'm facing the ends of the clip toward the accessible side!
