Hello Guys.

My name is Michal and I live in Glasgow UK. I've just bought 1984 RS which spend last 6 or 7 years in the garage. I ordered the new battery today and will try to start it as soon as its delivered. I did some reading of this forum and I am finding it very useful. A lot of great people with big knowledge.

Welcome to the forum,

Before you start it, have a look at the state of the rubber parts in the fuel tank.

If they are turning to mush, then trying to start the bike will just push al the crud through to the injectors.

Swill the tank out and have a good look.

Mike

So I had some time yesterday and I've got new battery on Friday. The bike spend 6-7 years in garage before I've got it . The chap I bought it from had dropped it (minor crack on faring), he started to taking it apart for repair but lost interest due to some other stuff. I put a new oil and filter, fuel filter (checked all fuel lines as you guys advised), installed 4 new spark plugs and it started after like 3rd crank Smile. So now a lot of cleaning, fairing repair and maybe respray. Mine is silverish green (awful color) and I really dig the white ones with black engine (motorsport style Smile.

Welcome to the forum, while waiting, wash the tank out and check the internal parts, if the oil level is correct in the crankcase, leave the bike on its side stand. the oil should seep into the head and lube the barrels. this is what makes the K bikes smoke on startup.

Have fun  Hello from Glasgow 44271

What's the point of this?

When I start a K that hasn't run in several years I usually spray some fogging oil into the cylinders and then run the starter with the L-Jetronic disconnected for several spins.  It may not be necessary but I do it so the cylinders/rings have some lubrication on the initial start before the oil gets circulating.
