From the photos, it appears the seat has been altered.  It looks to have had some foam removed to make it suited for a rider of short inseam.

Looks OEM to me. Also its taller than the Corbin seat the previous owner bought to replace it. He had that Corbin custom made for shorter inseam.

I think you are correct.  The underside of the pan sure looks original, based on the rivets shown in the photo.

If they're rivets then it's been recovered. BMW only used staples on stock seats. Keeps production costs lower.

BMW must have used both because legions of classic K-bike bench seats from pristine to clapped-out in photos on the Internet have been shown with riveted covers, or tatters, and my moto's original bench is riveted. It's a mystery wrapped in a conundrum.  scratch

My original OEM seat was riveted through plastic perimeter strips.

+1  The only stapled seat of the 6 or 7 that have come through my garage was a Sargent recover of an OEM bench seat.
