1985 BMW K100RS.  FRAME OFF RESTORATION.    I am selling my completely restored K100RS.  The level of detail in this bike is why I’m writing a small novel to chronicle it.   I’ll start in the front of the bike and work my way back.  Brand new Metzelers.  The wheels were completely stripped and repainted.  The forks where completely rebuilt and repainted BMW silver.  They were upgraded with Progressive springs.  The calipers were rebuilt with new pads and quick bleeders installed.  New bearings in the wheels as well as associated covers.  The bike has new upgraded  new braided brake lines with all matching hardware.
The engine was completely overhauled.  It  includes new oil/water pump, upgraded multiport fuel injectors, cam chain adjuster, new air box throttle body boots, new oil pan (fins were scratched) as well as the engine was completely painted in matching BMW silver.  Every vacuum, water and fuel hose on the bike was replaced with brand new. All new gaskets and seals throughout.  The inside of the camshaft cover was polished!  The gas tank internal fuel lines were replaces with a new fuel filter and pump.  The heat shield material on the underside of the tank was also replaced with new.  The entire wiring harness was cleaned (each connection), re-taped (with proper tape for the application) and tested. You’ll find the inside of the bike as clean as the outside.   The front head bearings and races as well as the bearing knuckle adjustment were also replaced.  The left and right controls on the handle bars are both brand new as well as all the matching support covers and switches. I did upgrade the bike with the Euro Switch that enables you to turn the lights off completely while the bike is running.  The front master cylinder was rebuilt.  The bike also has brand new heated grips and I also added a factory hazard switch.
The transmission was completely redone with new seals as well as a new main seal on the engine itself.  The bike as a brand new clutch as well as all new throttle, clutch and choke cables.
It has a newly rebuilt alternator as well.  The rear master cylinder was also completely rebuilt along with new braided cable brake line and rebuilt caliper.  The final drive was also repainted in BMW silver.  The entire bike shows that whole level of detail in the pictures.  The battery is of course new as well along with any associated cables that looked worn or aged.  The paint is slightly darker than the original blue by design as I think it adds to the looks. However, it is a BMW paint.  The tank badges are also upgraded and look infinitely better than stock.  The bike has a brand new wind screen and air deflector.  The rear tire wheel well is also completely new as well as the rear cowling.  New Progressive rear shock.  The rear wheel was also completely stripped and repainted to match.   Fine detail in things not normally done (foot peg mounts, gear shifter, clutch arm buffed to perfection) are just a few of the many things you will find on this motorcycle.  The foot peg rubber has all been replaced as well as buffing out the metal plates at the end of the pegs.   It’s taken me 3 years to restore this motorcycle and I can say it is truly a piece of art.  Literally every bolt on this bike was either clean, polish, painted or replaced.   It’s a one of kind machine.  The bike is a 1985 with the upgraded and much more functional 1986 rear cowling and seat.  The side panels are also brand new given the rear cowling upgrade.
While not in the pictures I do have the matching BMW luggage and mounts for the bike as well as the gas tank pads.  I also have the original 1985 bike manual and matching  tool kit for the bike.

Possibly 618 Caribean Blue which was an '85 colour.

Not a complete resto.... the rear wheel hub cap is missing.... Laughing
Also there's normally a K100 (sometimes just an RS) badge on the back of the tail cowl.

Seriously... a very nice restoration. Congrats. It's given me some ideas for my old '89 K100

Personally, I wouldn't buy a machine like this because I'd be too afraid of getting it dirty.
While my machine is very clean, I like to road patina it's acquired over the many years.

Wow. What a truly excellent job!

(But an 85 should have a clear windscreen. LOL)

..have this same model bought new in Reno Nv.  Alaska blue 85 rs.   140,000 miles and counting.  Only thing really needed was a new timing chain.  I envy that paint you got on back on yours.  Did you do it or who did it?  Laughing

Outstanding bike/restoration!  Someone needs to add it to their K bike collection!  Unfortunately,I already have 4 - along with a project bike in the works - plus I don't want my wife to divorce me.  Smile

Thing is this is a K.....one that will be as reliable as a new bike but better, the usual K problems fixed.

I couldn't buy one like this for fear of getting it dirty, but I sure would as an every day bike and happily put 100,000 miles on top of whatever is already on it. Way better than any new machine on the market!

I have taken 2 Ks through 100,000 miles and about t fettle my K1100LT for its second 100,000 and the only thing on the to do list for that is a timing chain.
