Going to change the side stand/center stand assembly on my 1985 K100RS to an center/side stand sassy from a K1100 - told it'll be easier to operate. Anybody know where to get such a thing or what years I'd be looking for? I'm a small-ish chick and have been struggling with the worn out center stand on my bike. I'm in LA - tips appreciated! Thanks.

Any 16V K100 or K1100 but you may have to shorten the legs of the stand if you fit a shorter rear shock.
Regards Martin.

Your local moto wrecker may have the complete assembly or Ebay or someone cafe, bobber, etc project or post up a
WTB Center & Side Stand Assembly with Support Bracket Base from K100 4V or K1100

https://www.k100-forum.com/f31-parts-needed

46522311150 Center stand supporting bracket is same used by 1990-1992 K100 4V & all K1100's (92-96) and corresponding parts

https://shop.maxbmw.com/fiche/DiagramsMain.aspx?vid=51713&diagram=46_0114&partnumber=46522311150

This thread may be of some use showing the center stand left leg mod needed with a wider rear rim.
You running a stock or wider rear?
somewhere around page 3
https://www.k100-forum.com/t2713-wider-wheels-radial-tyres-on-a-k100

The bottom of this thread shows SoCal 85 K100 owner doing same thing. Has a lot of good info on the 85 K100.

I changed all my K100 stands to K1100. The complete assembly is needed but its a straight swap.

You WILL find it harder to get on the centre stand and if you get a shorter rear shock then you will find it even harder. Other mods you can do are to pull the fork stanchions up 10-15mm and change rear tyre from 80 to 70 profile, afian these have the effect of making it harder to get the bike up on the stand.

The second thing I found was that the exhaust design on the 2v K100 makes it a little tight for getting your foot in to place on the arm on the stand leg to get the stand down. It could be worth getting that arm adjusted slightly if you are altering the stand.

The complete assembly is needed but its a straight swap.

What does this mean?  The mounting plate to the transmission is the same for both 2V and 4V center stands.

You can also use the 2V side stand with the 4V center stand as well the the 2V side stand retraction mechanism.

That depends on which side stand retracting mechanism you go for.

My 84 K100RT and the K100RS both had the early type self retracting side stand. I cut the pin to stop it working. This one is a disaster if you are short in the leg. I put side stand down before I kill the engine, then lean the bike on to it. Cant do that if its self retracting. Even worse is if someone or a gust of wind takes weight of the bike off the stands.....its gone over.

My 92 K100LT has the mechanism that pulls up the side stand when you pull the clutch. This is the better option.

I have a few complete early stand assemblies [all need rebushing, have the bushes] and the later ones with grease nipples etc just seem to be better.

The swap is so easy too, it all just bolts straight in.

Laughing  I realize it might seem like a joke to somebody who might not have done—or needed to do—strength training but the muscles developed in those two exercise are helpful in lifting a Brick more easily without back strain, especially if the legs and arms don't provide leverage length.

I'm eagerly awaiting the ABS2 exercise video though. I hope the background rhythm is salsa. Smile

I replaced my curved leg stand on my 92 75s with a straight legged K1100 stand. I installed the old clutch activated side stand retraction mechanism. I then found the pull on the clutch to actually retract the stand had increased significantly. It still works but the chances of breaking the clutch cable has increased. While I didn't really use the feature and used my foot to retract the stand, I am going to look into possibly slightly changing the lever lengths to get it to function properly again. Has anybody else had to modify the mechanism to get it to work. It would be a winter project but we don't really have a winter.
Regards Martin.

Are you sure the mechanism is adjusted and the stand lubed properly?  I installed the K1100 stand on my K75RT and there is no significant increase in clutch resistance.  Clutch is still an easy two finger pull and has been for the past five years.

Too much emphasis on slow twitch and honestly, their salsa rhythm needs work. Workout involving fast twitch muscle is more beneficial for lifts like the center stand as these practitioners demonstrate.

.75 all greased and adjusted, but I haven't had a play with it since installation. So if you did the conversion and there was no difference there must be a problem. I'll add it to my growing list of things to do.

Although my K100LT had the clutch operated mechanism I did not tend to use it. But it always served as an excellent reminder that if the clutch was a little stiffer....reminder to self to retract the stand.

No matter how well it is all lubed up it does make the clutch a little stiffer if you also use it to retract the stand and more stress on the cable/nipples.

Olaf I don't use it, and the extra stiffness as stated is a reminder. I'm yet to replace my original clutch cable probably due to the fact I don't use it. However I am going to try and get it to work as it should.
Regards Martin.

Side stand is now retracting.  As per .75 I had it adjusted as per the original stand  and I had to go a fair bit beyond that to get it to retract more easily. I won't be using it but it is a roadworthy item, so it's now legal. Four of us went for a ride a while ago up the infamous cop hangout Mt Glorious. As we left Samford I saw a bike trailing us at a  distance and as it got a bit closer the more I suspected it was a cop. He eventually closed up on us and tailed us all the way to the top. I haven't done Mt Glorious for about 6 years as there are too many cops. Last time I got pulled over by a group of six cops who were pulling over every bike and going right over them, I escaped unscathed.
Regards Martin.
