I have a question.Does the clutch cable go to the back of the right side fork tube or in front of it when it exits the underside of the fuel tank and turns to the left towards the clutch lever on the handle bar ?I have it behind but I notice when I turn hard to the right it really gets bent almost 90 degrees.in the same exact spot where my last one broke back in the spring. It was routed this way when I got the bike  with 12000 miles on the clock so I'm assuming that it was an original cable that broke .

The OEM one on mine was threaded down through the triple tree and behind the fork tube. I was never happy with it and the current home-made one is a couple of inches longer which allow greater movement when the bars are turned.

I have the standard length RT cable and based on several discussions here I run it inside the left top frame rail past the fuse panel and with a straightish drop to the actuating arm. This is much easier on the lever action than the one I took off which followed the (factory I think) route of right at the trees with a left turn over the engine and also gives a bit more available length.

 That's the answer I'm looking for ! Thanks .At some point this winter I will pull off the tank and put the other new cable I bought( I bought 2) on.The one that is on there now  though new has a serious bend in it from being routed in the factory position and I know it will be breaking there  so I'm going to remove it before that happens.It's too much of a pain in the ass when it lets you down to wait for it to break.

OK  I'll do that .It may not be 'till early spring though. I got my Moto Guzzi 850 - T back in service just yesterday after a clutch replacement job I had to do so I'm giving my brain  and my wallet a rest for a bit before I attack this.

Have to do the clutch cable on my K100RS too, it broke a few weeks ago but having other Ks to ride its sitting there a while I think.

This is my left side route.

I think that first bend off the lever could be eased by routing between the instrument pod supports, and now I have the fairing off I will try it.

Thank you for these photos ! This is exactly what I need to do.As you can see,with the front wheel going straight forward the cable has a severe bend which happened when the bars are turned to the right This is no good ! It wasn't like this when I installed in back in June but as I used it this is what happened to it.I'm certain this will cause failureClutch cable routing 1988 K100 RS Img_4411
