You could attach them with a couple wraps of duct tape.  Will probably be stronger than the "official" mount.

Breakaway Crash Bars.  WTF?

I think they're "tear away" so that they don't crack the oil sump open in a getoff.  It's easier to make it home with a bar torn off than with no oil.
