this is a photo of the gas cap when flipped over.
The "nose" is the conical piece; inside that conical there is what appears to be a pressure valve of some kind. Since it popped out when I got the nose off, I'm not sure which way it goes back in -- see pic 2 and 3, and not sure where the small flat gasket goes: on top or underneath?  Regular K bikes don't seem to have this bit.

YOU'LL HAVE TO DOWNLOAD DOCUMENT TO VIEW QUESTION ON IT

thanks,  zk

thanks; used that for rebuild, but interior of K1 cap is different than the K100 cap. It has interior bits that are the issue, and not in that vid.

cannot post pix since not enough posts..

will send directly to you if you email me at zigyphoto@gmail.com

The interior of your K1's cap is different, but the K1, and later model K100/K75 caps all have the same part number. An earlier cap may have replaced your original. The earlier caps have been indicated by BMW to be prone to vapor lock.

Somebody with a K1 here will clear this up for you as soon as you post some photos.

Yes, cap itself is not the problem; the issue is those interior bits, which don't appear in the vid https://www.euromotoelectrics.com/product-p/ft-gasketkit461.htm  when he removes the conical cap..

I await the wisdom of a K1 rider....

thanks for your good ideas and help.

The K1 gas cap is exactly the same, internally and externally, as the other Ks.

(The gas tank is the same too.)

The docx file downloaded fine for me.

Here's where the O-rings go - I lifted them out of place for the picture to make them easier to see.

Thanks!  the top picture shows me almost exactly what I needed to know -- but issue is not the o-rings; it's the little spring and white capped gizmo on top.  There is a small circular gasket (not o-ring) that I believe fits UNDER the piece on which the spring sits?

Got it!

What a great start to the morning!

Interesting how that internal gizmo does not show on the vid for rebuilding the gas cap.

Thank you very much.

now maybe the gas cap mounting ring will finally come loose from the gas tank opening...

A word of advice: Don't take Chris Harris videos as gospel. (He's the guy who did that gas cap video.) It's great that he does those and he knows a lot about Ks but that's just the opinion of one mechanic.  For example, his advice to pack all of the gas cap parts with petroleum jelly seems very silly to me and is not necessary.

That gas cap mounting ring will come loose form the tank. Sometimes it just needs a little persuasion.

When you put the gas cap back on put some anti-seize on the screw threads and don't he-man tighten them.

Duck,

thanks for that; I get it and the assembly finally came off with lots of silicone spray and a bit of gentle leverage.  foul and now cleaned.
yeah, all that petroleum jelly seems a bit much.

Don't mean to hijack this thread, but didn't think my question needed it's own thread ;-)

My current tank leaks gas out the lid when I top it up and take a little bend or brake a bit aggressively right after. My lid is the one with the key and the push button.
Should I replace the seals for this cap or look to change to the "newer" cap with only the key?

EDIT: Woah the whole thing is a bit pricey BMW-K-100-LT-RT-RS-16111453012, so would rather rebuild the seals only..

Cheers,
Ash

Be patient second hand later caps do come up. After being quoted $180.00 Au by a BMW wrecker in Victoria, I picked up a really good one off Gumtree for $80.00 Au. Keep checking Ebay and whatever your equivalent of Gumtree/Craigs List is.
Regards Martin
