I have searched the Forum in vain for an answer to this and hence, a new post.

I have stripped down my K100 frame for powder coating and the only bit that is left on it which waggles around (on a spring!) Is the centre stand lifting handle.

Just how does it come off? I can't see any pin or any way of removing it. No doubt, the some magic way, but I just can't find it.

Thanks for the answers everyone.

… And I did exactly that when building my outfit on the other K100 because it was in the way of the top rear chair mounting. However, having ripped it off with the spinning disc, it's not going to be that easy to put back on again after powder coating.

The spring is held under tension/torsion by the two metal pieces, one at each end of the spring spanning the tube.  With some finagling you can pop one of them out. Top one is easiest.

Caution: things tend to go flying when you do this.

I have only removed them.  Good luck getting it back together.

Thanks. That was one of my concerns. I was tempted to have it PC all in one piece and let it wear back in again.
If all else fails reassembly is easy enough, it might just be with no spring!

Just a theory but I think if you put the bottom one in and then a loop of sturdy wire through the top of the spring to pull on it you could slide the top "bar" in and then also use that approach to twist the spring a half a turn or two to get some torsion in it.

Do the "bars" come out? They look welded to me.

Nope, they're "loose," held in place in their notches by spring tension.

The Clymer manual has a brief summary of this procedure on p. 494
