Bricks do float...Check this one out... https://www.k100-forum.com/t7444-irish-eccentrics-on-water

I know it has been tested on inland waters and on the Atlantic which I guess rules out a trip to Oregon....

I've just spent a fine Saturday evening with my girl in Portland, Oregon at the custom bike show called The One Show. There were dozens of cool motorcycles, from choppers to rats, board trackers, flat trackers, a K chookie, BSAs, Trumpets, more homebuilts than I've ever seen, to professional stuff from Icon. BMW's own Ola Stenegaard was there handing out awards, great music was played by a live band with a stand up bass, the local beer flowed, pizza consumed, and hipsters abounded. I think I might have to grow back my long lovely beard and sport my thick rimmed glasses.
But best of all, I got to see Larry Romestant's Bell Kaff/KAgusta K12 in-the-metal! Larry himself ambled past and we settled into a pleasant convo. What a gent. His attention to detail is extraordinary. The man, and his lovely wife and partner Carol, is as passionate and creative as any moto enthusiast I've met.
I left humbled and inspired at the same time.
I took pictures, but have only my mobile so posting is troublesome...

Cheers

One question (on the green-framed bike): the airflow sensor is disconnected, so how does it work? Google has NOT been my friend for a very long time over this question.

I'm willing to bet that the mid-range punch on that bike must be something else. Those velocity stacks will be ramming a serious amount of high-speed air into the cylinders.

On the 2V models a Bosch Jetronic FI system is used, this system using a AFM
as one of the parameters to calculate the fuel mix.
On the 4V models a Bosch Motronic engine management system is used, this
system don't use a AFM, but instead using a double pot meter as a TPS for
this calc.

The model in the pictures is based on a K1200.

To sharpen the pencil, Mr Romestant is using 38mm K12 TBs but with the 2.2 Motronic from late '93 on K1100, but with a custom wiring loom. The TPS connector to the TBs is the same for K1200 and K1100 with later Motronic. It is calculated to have 145 BHP as compared to a stock K1200RS/GT at 130 BHP.

Apparently, with careful syncing the 38mm K12 TBs are an easy mod when using K11 later Motronic with O2 sensor, in spite of the lack of bypass air screws. I was wondering which of the two sets of TBs to use on my Big Block project. The answer is there. The attention to detail is extraordinary.

A good idea. The builder says it 'really opens up the torque band' using long intake runners and 38mm K12 TBs.

I've just had a re-read and I'm mildly confused. Is that a 100 or an 1100 block in there?

We used to stick six-inch inlets on 650/750 BSAs and Triumphs to try and squeeze a bit more mid-range punch out of them. I'm not sure it always worked because six inches seemed a bit short for the theory. I do have a memory of someone hanging the carbs out near the back wheel to really get them ramming!!

The custom, green framed job is a K12 motor and six speed 'box in a heavily modded K11 frame.

The point, mine at least, is that K12 TBs sans air bypass screws, but with L-bend stainless intake runners, can be used with later K11 Motronic for meaty beaty big and bouncy torque.

Let's hope she's a late '93 on K11 with motronic 2.2.
38mm K1200RS/GT TBs can be found on eBay for cheap.
Be careful you don't end up with the 34mm variety from a K1200LT!
No one wants to go backwards.

Ah - what I should have said is that I now know which model I need for the donor bike. The project has to wait until the Guzzi Cali is finished and we've moved house, but it's not stopping me from slowly gathering parts. It's also not going to be cheap - I'm eyeballing about £10K - because I want a leading link front end and an IRS A-framed backend. The backend alone is going to cost me around £4.5K including (BMW) wheels Very Happy

I finally had a chance to return and attend The One Show in PDX OR again, after several years of work schedule interference, and found its new location in an arena sized stadium a bit off-putting. The show has been held in a variety of spaces over the years, starting out in crumbling warehouses on the gritty east side, moving to a larger space (to handle the crowd) near the airport last year. There were very many kewl bikes, spaced out as if to give the impression of an art gallery, but some bikes were too well lit and others dimly lit. Some were plainly tucked into dark corners, but to me this is where the fun is. The size of the stadium, and the corporate feel, like a custom paint job that is deliberately left dull and ragged, then clear-coated, was forced, and left me a bit cold, as did the fee for parking motorbikes, when there was a heap of useful space right out front. I went on a quiet Sunday, the third day of the show, after the dirt track races and bands had spun their tyres and spilt their beers. Still, there were a whole heap of people, families, crusty bikies, oldies, kids, all seeming to enjoy the show. Thor Drake, owner of See See Coffee & Motorcycles, and founder of the show from day one eleven years ago, wandered past pushing a wheelie bin full of rubbish. All hands to the task. I grabbed a local tinnie of beer and slice and set about on my own wanderings of the two floors for several hours. I'd lived and worked in Portland sixteen years back so there were a few familiar faces to catch up with as well. My, haven't we all aged a tad?!

Alas, this year not a K Bike in sight, but here are the few offerings from the Beemer gods:
The Art of Bike 20200216
Roland Sands' R1200GS. A well-done nod to the winning Paris-Dakar era, in living colours.
The Art of Bike 20200217
Hey, nice S.
The Art of Bike 20200218
A sweet Airhead with not so subtle mods. I liked it.
The Art of Bike 20200219
A sorta retro Oilhead.
The Art of Bike 20200220
Find the missing mudguards and you're good to go on a muddy road, my best guess for the bike's intended purpose.
The Art of Bike 20200221
Another sorta retro nod, Airhead.
The Art of Bike 20200222
A plain Jane Airhead, but tidily done.
The Art of Bike 20200223
Another not so subtle corporate sponsor, placed smack behind the pièce de résistance...
The Art of Bike 20200224
A true Big Block.
The Art of Bike 20200225
BMW kindly supplied its coming-soon-to-a-dealer-near-you, here in the R18/2 concept.
The Art of Bike 20200226
It looks pretty sweet in the flesh, tho' not my style, and I reckon it'll find a better market than the ill-fated R1200C & CL did in the '90s and Noughties.
The Art of Bike 20200227
And again...

There were literally hundreds of bikes, too numerous to show. my typing fingers are sore from this but if interested I'll include some of them later. Was it worth travelling two and a half hours south from Tacoma WA to see these bikes? $17 to get in, $13 to park, $8 for a tinnie and $5 for a thin slice...x two people. Not a bad Sunday arvo. The weather was fine, too.

I'm looking forward to seeing it as a dealer item at my local. I wanna mount it to see if I can sit comfortably astride its massive jugs, 'coz they, um, err, stick out so, and with those pushrods dangling just above them there as they do...sort of.

Better go have a liedown.

I got to see the R18 earlier in January.  It is definitely an impressive beast.  BMW has spent a lot of time and money in developing this bike for what would likely be a very small market.  The videos they have put out with 'Tommy the Millennial' have been quite entertaining.  So far the biggest criticism seems to be that those massive jugs will prevent the use of highway pegs.  I guess I won't be buying one then.....
