I've heard that the windshield motor is used in the BMW auto sunfroofs and is a lot cheaper through the auto dealers. 

The tank badge that cost $14 in 2014 now costs $30.73.  The essentially same badge is used on auto wheels and I've heard it costs about $6. 

I have a bunch of receipts from MAXBMW, and it's shocking how much parts prices have increased over the past 5-6 years.  Some parts like the tank badge have had 10-20% price increases every year during a period when the CPI has been running at 2-3%.

The motor it's self looks a lot like those found on BMW auto window regulators. If one of them crosses the after market motors are about $20.

Of course the rest of the hardware is different.

Any numbers for the motor itself with out the drive? Guess it depends where the trouble spot is?

What is actually wrong with the motor?? Brushes can be replaced, commutators cleaned, bearing replaced, and you can rewind armatures. A guy I used to work with used to race electric cars and did motor rewinds and rebuilds. Try contacting a model car racing club and see who rebuilds motors.

As gorio indicated, parts from certain BMW auto series purchased from ebay and various salvagers will work in this application according to this thread. There are some on eBay offered in a range of reasonable prices right now—for example, this one. The actuator part numbers for the K75RT and the K1100LT in Max's fiche are the same.

Actually, BMW has reviewed its prices last year, and many parts for pre Y2K bikes have increased, some dramatically.
Some dealers, who have stocks, can go on with old prices, but if the part needs to be ordered new from BMW, it may be very expensive.


Note that the windshield electrical motor is usually innocent: the failure comes from corrosion inside the tubes where the cables move into. These cables are made with a center wire, and a spiral wire around, with felt that is supposed to prevent dirt and moisture from getting in.
In fact it stucks water into the tubes, corrosion does its job, the cables get seized and the electrical motor suffers, then dies.
One day I was trying to free these cables, I used WD40 or anything similar to ease, then heated the tube. The felt burnt , I could separate the cable from the tube, cleaned it and put silicone lubricant into, then it never messed anymore.

BMW use that same motor in many applications, both my 7 series and X5 have them in the seat mechanisms and steering wheel adjustment.
That is for the ones like me who are too bone idle to do a manual adjustment.
